ALT Several travelers have gone missing along Sion’s Path and Canary’s Ridge the last fortnight, between dusk and the dawn. We suspect a bear breaking hibernation or a Glouixair, both best be avoided. Always travel in pairs, carry a weapon, and do not be out after dark. We will not look for your body before dawn. Venture at your own risk. -People of Willow’s Fall

ALT Amelios flinched at the wet tongue running along his collarbone, horrified as the chain that held his cross was gently tugged into the vampire's mouth. The briefest flash of fangs skimmed across his skin, sending his stomach cramping, threatening to heave. Slowly, clearly taunting him with his lack of preparedness and foolhardiness, the vampire pooled more of the chain in his mouth while kissing and strip of skin, making a show of his helplessness. Pink lips, bright and full of blood from the recently killed, pressed into the hollow of his neck, sending him writhing while a knee rubbed across his front. Those lips curled into a vicious smirk before savagely tugging the chain until it snapped in half. How old and strong does he have to be for that to be so easy to break? For it to not affect him at all? Bile bit at Amelios’ tongue as the vampire stared, silver-ringed eyes glimmering with delight, then spit the cross across the room, unscathed from handling the holy object. I’m dead.

ALT Excerpt: Soren shifted on the bench, the sky dark with brightly lit towers that dotted the horizon. “If it’s been so long, and serious, why be open?” Amos raised an eyebrow. “Nobody is monogamous. At least not up here. Partners are like favors. Traded. Shared. Coveted.” “Coveted, yet you’re letting me stay and be with Kieran.” “Letting is a strong word. It doesn’t matter if I like it or not. I’m his partner, not his jailor.” Soren sighed. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to hear. “Kieran said a similar thing, y’know.” “That he’s not my jailor?” “That he doesn’t like to share.” It was a thin jab, caught in purple eyes framed by dark lashes as Amos smiled beautifully. “Neither of us like to share. And yet, here you are.”

Top Right: I’d survived a hundred years rationing my magic like breath beneath water. Concealing and guarding myself. Seven Hells, I’d managed. Yet standing in the cellar, watching the darkness now creep beyond the crook of my arm, I bristled at the reminder. Bottom Left: “It’s flattering how much you enjoy my company.” He let out a laugh, rich and dark as nightshade, that rumbled in through my body. “And here I thought it was you who was enjoying mine.” “Would you prefer I didn’t?” I dared. Bottom Right: Her body shivered as I kissed her jaw, moving slowly until my mouth hovered over hers. “But if I need to be clearer, Verena, it’s you.”
