Soil organic N can be bioavailable N! Our new conceptual model unites biological (#plant, #microbe) & #mineral controls on bioavailable N cycling doi.org/10.1007/s10533-021-0… @AndreaJilling @bowleslab @BuchowskiR @seritafrey @cynthiakallenba @MariaMooshammer @jpschimel @sgrandysoil

Stumbled across an old plagiarism! Mayr's 1982 definition of emergence is a near-verbatim quote of Broad 1925, but without attribution. See thread below. @sgrandysoil was shocked. @jwadeexperience was like, guess that's what folks could get away with before Google! 1/3
Broad 1925: Emergence is... "the theory that the characteristic behavior of the whole could not, even in theory, be deduced from the most complete knowledge of the behavior of its components, taken separately or in other combinations, and of their proportions... 3/4
Seems like a great idea to be clear and communicative about how we can reciprocate research/academic help at the time we ask for it. Especially if the ask is directed at someone upon whom society tends to impose more expectations of free labor (incl. women, POC)

We have another posdoctoral position available with our dryland critical zone project, focusing on one of the greatest of subdisciplines: soil biogeochemistry! Main advisors are Jennie McLaren and Lixin Jin. Check it out. @Jin_DrylandCZ drylandcz.org/uploads/1/3/8/…
Highly recommend to UNH grad students, WIS is one of the best grad-oriented, grad-student-run professional development and support networks on campus, esp for women and enby folks!
Someone get on this ASAP, it's gonna be a great position. We at the @sgrandysoil lab are excited to work with whomever is hired alongside @AndreaJilling and @KeiluweitL 's team!
PhD position available in my lab @OSUplantsoilsci!!

Maybe this will help someone today. I’ve had an amazing career & attribute a lot to one fact I read long ago. Men apply for opportunities when they feel ~60% qualified. Women tend to apply when they feel fully qualified. When I consider something, this still drives me. Apply!!
Hey #sciencetwitter who has clever space-saving ways to store 20 mL scint vials and 50 mL centrifuge tubes in the freezer? I'm thinking shrink wrap? Nose-to-tail style 3D geometry hacks??
