Tonight, Eddie Kingston wrestles the biggest match of his life and I was looking back at his Player's Tribune article titled "Got No Business F***ing Being Here"...and when you read his story, he legit had no business f'n being here! He's talked a lot about his trials and tribulations but let me just fast forward to him getting signed by AEW. COVID 2020 = Eddie spends his last $2000 to fly home from the UK as borders were closing, all the Indys are shut down, and he sold his wrestling boots to make his mortgage payment. He had no way of making money, and within a month, he'd be out on his ass, back living with his parents. July 4, 2020 = He wrestles an Indy match in a parking lot in New Jersey. After the match, he grabs a mic and decides to talk shit. He calls out Zack Sabre Jr, Cody Rhodes, and Nick Aldis. He didn't think anything of it, just talked trash, left. But that clip found it's way to Cody, who invited Eddie to AEW. July 16, 2020 = Eddie makes his AEW debut, you've all heard the promo, and he wrestles Cody. The match was taped so it aired on TV later. He got his pay check, Brodie Lee and Mox both said he did a good job, and he goes home. When the match airs on TV, AEW texted him, “Eddie, you’re trending.” And Eddie said, “Trending? What is that? Does that mean I get paid more?” She texted him back, “No, this is a big deal. They’re tweeting #SIGNEDDIEKINGSTON. It’s everywhere. There’s thousands of people. They’re begging AEW to sign you.” So for a week Eddie Kingston trends on Twitter. People fell in love with this man off of one promo, one match. July 31, 2020 = Eddie Kingston is #AllElite His 20 year grind paid off when he was at the lowest point in his life. Now, 3 years later, he's about to wrestle the biggest match of his life with the chance to become a Triple Crown Champion like his idols. #AEWWorldsEnd We talked about biopics last few days, I wanna see the Eddie Kingston movie!
