I've been crafting a great short story for an event I've got coming later this month, so I've been reflecting on what it takes to write a compelling story when constrained by word count.

What do you think are the most important things in a short story?
This was my first ever panel as an author and I got the wonderful opportunity to speak on something I'm really passionate about; video game narratives.
Terrible journey getting to Chester for FantasyCon but @MHAyinde suffered it together. Got here and went out for pierogi with @AnnabelCWrites before her panel talking about romancing characters in Bulder's Gate. I guess it hasn't been too horrible today considering the start...
The Google Breakup is logical, to me. Even if they just split off the Ad Sense arm. Ads are counter to a good user experience, so any advancement any part of Google can make in creating the best products that they can are inevitably going to be harmed by their need to support ads
Self publishing is HARD. It feels like you're cutting out the middleman, before realising that the entire time, the middleman is an entire team of specialists. I can't JUST be an author, I have to also edit, design, market, support.... #selfpublishing

ALT The Great Leap by Dan Hanly Banished deep into the wilderness for a crime they didn't commit, four desperate teenagers must discover their true potential to survive… and keep their blossoming supernatural abilities hidden from a cunning, deceptive enemy. Hunted and alone, this foursome must navigate their worst nightmares if they ever want to escape the mysterious and primaeval Wildlands alive. As they confront the realities of their upbringings, the secrets they harboured from one another, and the hardships they endured, the teens must find a way to band together and galvanize their bonds, else they fall to the dangers that pursue them. Each of the survivors begin to develop strange and terrifying abilities that they struggle to comprehend hearkening back to an age once past… but will these abilities help or hinder their survival as they clash with the unimaginable horrors of the Wildlands.
Can't wait to go to #FantasyCon in Chester next month. It's going to be my first convention as a #fantasy author and I'm looking forward to meeting my peers, many of whom I've only spoken to online.
So far thrilled at the response I'm getting on my new cover for The Great Leap. It fits the vibe of the book so much better, and readers seem to agree so far: #darkfantasy #fantasy #books #kindleunlimited amazon.co.uk/Great-Leap-Medi…
