Daniel Isaza

Dr. Johanna Contreras is an internationally respected cardiologist, physician-scientist, educator and advocate committed to improving cardiovascular care for all. Born in Colombia, Dr. Contreras began her medical education at the Universidad Industrial de Santander, where she founded Colombia’s first peer-reviewed medical journal edited by medical students. Dr. Contreras is medical director of Mount Sinai Hospital’s Hispanic Heart Center in New York, New York, where she has worked to address the barriers that can prevent Hispanic and Latino patients from receiving timely, advanced cardiovascular care. She has been an American Heart Association volunteer for more than 15 years, helping extend lifesaving health information across borders and advance women’s heart health.
