realized my last proper update here was 2023 (unless you count spotting a giant Pengu at token2049 last year). life & builder update from singapore: after years building a hyperlocal community app at @nextblocksg, i’ve spent the last chapter deep in the trenches of digital health — leading commercial at CARE (wearecare.sg). what i’m spending my time on right now: • helping companies rethink corporate wellness & employee health — moving past "tick-the-box perks" toward meaningful preventive & everyday healthcare • building across digital health, insurtech, and clinical workflows that make care simpler for doctors, insurers, HR, and patients • swimming, cycling with my 7yo kiddo, and dialing in a proper V60 filter coffee going to be sharing more from the frontlines of digital health, employee benefits, and building in APAC. if you’re building or working in healthcare, benefits, or tech in the region — say hi 👋

Been tinkering on a fun side project: snapplate 🍜 Snap your plate, see what's on it. Hawker, café or home. Friends get first go mid-Nov, so come poke holes in it. Which dish should it nail first? @snapplate_sg snapplate.care/?utm_source=x…

medicare's AI prior auth pilot is getting hammered this week. a new jama study found use of the targeted services fell 15-20% in the first six months, with the steepest drop right after launch. and newly released records show cms sent warning letters to 4 of its 6 vendors within the first 3 months. that's not an AI problem. it's a design problem. tune a model to deny faster and you've just automated the worst habit of the fax machine. the version that works auto-approves the clean, guideline-matching cases in seconds, and sends the messy ones to a human with the evidence already laid out. speed should go to the patient, not just the payer.

good to see this happening in singapore. literature lookup is the easy part tho. the hard part is fitting it into a 10-min consult without adding one more screen for the doctor nitter.gq/retro_simple/status/21…
Google announced a new AI research hub in Singapore on Oct. 29. DeepMind is also working with NUHS to evaluate an AI co-clinician that helps doctors navigate medical literature. No public app launch announced. blog.google/innovation-and-a… #AI #HealthTech

data tells you if you're doing things right. unless you're doing the data wrong :))))))

most "clinical AI" wrappers look great in a 3-minute demo — then break on day 1 of real clinic + TPA operations. a stateless chatbot can summarize a lab PDF. it can't govern a 364-day chronic care loop across overlapping conditions, GP-to-specialist handoffs, and insurer pre-auth rules. the real unlock in healthtech isn't a bigger prompt. it's pairing AI with deterministic clinical pathway state machines: • longitudinal patient state across all 365 days • hard-coded multi-condition safety guardrails • shared GP ↔ specialist ↔ TPA pre-auth state AI should handle the interface. deterministic clinical pathways should govern the decisions.

Thanks for the war stories brother! 2 big takeaways: 1. Health data must do more than sit as a number in a 20-page report—paired with good clinicians' diagnosis, it drives timely intervention so we live better. 2. He's helped 30 of China's top 100 hospitals digitally transform & grow (excited for his top CN wearable recs too!)

Front-row seats at Waterway Point today for the DINO-A-LIVE roadshow preview with the 7yo kiddo 🦖 Watching an 8-metre T-Rex built by Japan's ON-ART Corp stalk across a Punggol mall atrium—and stare down the front row inches from the kids' faces—is wild in person. Zero CGI, piloted from the inside using their mechanical DINO-TECHNE suit. Safe to say the December RWS show just made the family calendar. straitstimes.com/singapore/p…

Most corporate wellness apps don't fail because of bad UI. They fail because they're cut off from actual care. A few things I've learned building in digital health in Singapore 🧵

5/ What I think works: medically backed programs, real screening data, a doctor on hand when you need one, and outcomes that HR and finance can both read.

6/ Wellness should feel like a health partner, not one more app to ignore. What's worked (or flopped) at your company? 👇
