The Müller ice core is now complete at 613m, making this the longest ice core in Canada. From a colleague: We came to Müller, brave and bold, To drill through secrets deep and cold. With cutters sharp and caffeine high, We punched a straight hole, from bedrock to sky.

Pretty awesome! For the record, 10 of us are camping through -30°s on the Muller ice cap at 80°N attempting to recover a 600m ice core, which would be the longest in canadian history & provide a 10,000yr climate record! And yes we can stream the @NHLJets!
As True North as you can get 🥶 Jets fan and @umanitoba scientist David Babb is cheering us on from near the 80th parallel north in Nunavut!

What a win by the @NHLJets. Getting the complete breakdown from Kenny and Renny (@snseanreynolds & @WiebesWorld) during my Sunday morning walk on our skiway on the Müller ice cap at 80°N. #GoJetsGo

Back from two weeks at Eureka where we deployed equipment on the newly formed sea ice (~45 cm). No sun, but we lucked out with a clear full moon that made for some pretty incredible views. Fingers crossed everything works until we return in May! @ceos_um

It's a mix of excitement and nerves working on just 45 cm of sea ice about 20 km from the station with high winds during polar night. Months of preparation and a strict safety plan, which included loads of thickness measurements along the route, meant everything went well.

Tragic news from the Canadian Coast Guard.
We are devastated to confirm that one of our own employees has been lost at sea. Crews conducted an extensive search and rescue operation at sea and in the air, which ended last night.

Back from an incredible 3 weeks onboard the @CoastGuardCAN Des Groseilliers doing CTDs through the Canadian Arctic during its annual run to Eureka. Managed to push right up to the edge of the arctic ice pack at the entrance to Nansen Sound, sampling areas not sampled in 50 years.

After a series of papers on multiyear sea ice loss in the Beaufort Sea, the broader Arctic Ocean & the Canadian Arctic, me & Steve were invited to write a chapter reviewing the characteristics of MYI & summarizing its loss across the Arctic. Check it out. doi.org/10.1016/B978-0-323-8…

I never found a great way to convey that, but then this month I'm on a coast guard ice breaker and see this manual on identifying old ice during summer (Johnston & Timco, 2008) which has these beautiful visualizations of MYI layering.

Anyways, my new pet project is now to find old landfast MYI that we can look at for signs of layering.
