also, I find it pretty inconsistent when people say "AI for coding is fine, AI for art is bad". If AI-generated art is bad because it steals from artists, then AI-generated code is bad because it steals from engineers. you can't have it both ways.

I see how some people can watch flashy robot demos on the timeline and think with a shiver that the robot apocalypse is around the corner, but reality check: There is no robot in the world that can change the batteries in a jack-o-lantern. If you have a robot friendly door handle it might be able to walk outside, pick it up, and carry it back inside. The robot could open the drawer with your batteries in it, but then things get tough. Opening the package of AA batteries? Extracting a precision screwdriver from its case? Unscrewing four tiny screws that require a hard press and twist? Popping batteries out of the case? Yes, you could build and train a specialist robot to do that today, but there is a very long way to go to replace the full range of human capabilities. Near term doomer scenarios should stop at “secretly controlling humanity” instead of “wiping humanity out” 😀

AI people are so funny. The industry has known about covert channels for DECADES. They do not matter for 99.9% of use cases. They matter for AI agent evaluations in a sandbox with code execution. That is the 0.1%. Sooo... OpenAI security people just failed at their jobs. Again.
‘In one experiment, we asked agents in separate VMs, created and managed by OpenAI’s sandboxing software on shared host machines, to exchange synthetic secrets without the use of network connections or shared writable files—something that our systems are meant to prevent. The agents found a way to communicate using the processor’s cache’

Don't get mad. This is the result of idiots abusing and overhyping AI non-stop. It's an overreaction, but I get their frustation. I'm super pro-AI and use it daily, but I'm also tired of people flooding projects and the internet with slop code/content.
The r/OpenSource subreddit has officially banned anything using AI. In any way. Violators will be permanently banned. Which means… r/OpenSource will ban anyone submitting anything that, in any way, involves… the Linux kernel. reddit.com/r/opensource/comm…

But totally not a bubble... The .com bubble wasn't because the web was useless... it was because too many small providers invested in infrastructure too fast because everyone was saying it was the future... Demand was real, but not as high as the projections... And website operators were putting out inflated numbers while trying to find real paying customers... When the small guys started failing, the valuation of the big guys also fell... J.P. Morgan identified GPUs depreciate and circular financing as 2 huge risks... - GPUs depreciate because data centers and labs often need to buy new GPUs to keep up, even if they have not finished repaying the ones they are replacing... and the resale value don't cover the missing money... - Circular financing because most of the cash flow in AI currently consists of circular IOUs, and circular investment.
