9 out of 10 also think that taking action over burnout & stress/working conditions is reasonable. Currently working in Ireland you'll start on £90k more and at 5 years will be paid £250k vs £130k in England. Even in Wales at top pay point you'll be paid £16k more & £1m more during working life time for same job. Colleague yesterday in ED was going in for a shift which should have 9 SpRs, there were only 2. Everyone is burnt out , looks at local jobs and chosen alternative countries. Look outside your own bubble and consider medicine more broadly and what the whole thing looks like for the future for all doctors not just orthopods!

Consultants don’t want to strike, but after 18 months without formal negotiations, they cannot wait any longer. These strikes are planned to take place on 25 and 26 November, with Christmas Day levels of cover provided. There is still time for the Government to make progress.

Plenty of private sector moaning in the media regarding the @BMA_Consultants industrial action on 25th & 26th November... "But they're paid so well!" An enlightening graph below from a @NuffieldTrust article. Nurses and midwives next? #NHS @TheBMA nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-it…

It’s simple, treat hospital doctors fairly, we work for a monopoly employer. Since 2008 average workers pay up 68%, consultants only 30%. Our comparator professions up 79%. We’re effectively working for more than a quarter of the year for free compared to 2008.

We've been talking for 18 months. We were expecting negotiations starting on the 16th October. It's hard to see this as anything other than the last resort. What's more, if they come to the table with something to address the issues around survivability, professional time, pay, pension access they'll be no strikes at all.

Both you and Mr Kennedy @IndeedUK need to get slightly better at reading graphs, this is the post austerity graph. Looks pretty different?

Hey everyone, I still remember how to write, so I wrote something about vaccines in case anyone is still interested in silly things like facts. docbastard.net/2026/01/more-…

"this large, randomised trial showed that surgical fixation for displaced medial epicondyle fractures in children offers no clinically meaningful benefit compared with non-surgical care, and resulted in more frequent complications" Great work @MrDanPerry and team!

No need for a finger up the bum - a simple PSA blood test is all you need to check for the early signs of Prostate Cancer. Not all pricks are unbearable, @piersmorgan. Check your risk here: prostatecanceruk.org/risk-ch… 18+ | GambleAware | @ProstateUK

If this is your evidence, you might want to take some coursework in epidemiology and biostats. The household transmission analyses were underpowered. There were only 26 household acquired cases! If there was an effect, the study wasn’t powered to detect it. Note the wide CIs.

Amid a firehose of falsehoods about vaccines, new CDC data show that last year’s Covid booster reduced the risk of severe illness by 76% among kids aged 6 months to 4 years old and 56% among kids aged 5 to 17 years old.
