🌟 It's the duty of every teacher on the team to craft accommodations. Special educators have brilliant ideas, but all staff members have wisdom to offer.🌟 #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #TeacherTwitter

ALT Things To Say To Your Deeply Feeling Kid 5 "HING" "You're a good kid having a hard time." "I'm not scared of your feelings. I won't leave you alone when you feel this way. I love you" "Do you know that no one is 'perfect' at feelings? Feelings are tricky for everyone!" "It's never your fault when I yell. I'm working on staying calm when I have my big feelings." "There's nothing you could do that would make me stop loving you. Nothing nothing nothing."

Language is the anchor of reading comprehension. What we are comprehending IS language. Developing accurate and automatic decoding is the KEY to unlocking complex, knowledge/empathy-building texts with advanced language & syntax. I developed this infographic to demonstrate this.

This is my latest piece, and it's on the rationale and practicalities of grading special education, I mean, general education students identified as needing special education systems of support. Read that last sentence again. When this article first came out a few weeks ago, a thoughtful educator pushed back a bit, indicating that students identified as special education students aren't "SPED" or special students; they are General Education students, just like every other student in our classes who happen to need some support systems in order to thrive. I'm grateful to this educator to remind me of this, something that was lost in me due to laziness and trying to be efficient when writing. It really is a game-changer for so many, however, and I invite teachers, principals, and school board members to use that lens as they work with students with IEP's, 504's, ELL, and so on, let alone as they read in the article how to handle grading challenges.
