The DCEU is over! What a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Ironically, its inconsistency forced a lot of us to look beyond superhero movies and the one franchise to a lot of great cinema, which I will always be grateful for. I met some wonderful people along the way - thank you.

And thus the DCEU ends, not with a bang but a whimper. No red carpet premiere, no afterparty, just a small (but neat) pre-reception, a "fan screening," and only Jason Momoa and James Wan at the Grove to close out a veritable era...

Pouring one out for the DCEU with an Aquaman 2 screening pre-party (note the ice glasses those shots are in - we had to wrap them in napkins to hold)

THE BATMAN is tremendous. Dark, exciting, uplifting: a gift to fans of the character and cinema that stands apart from anything attempted in the genre in years. Powerful, masterful & purposeful filmmaking and storytelling. Congrats @mattreevesLA @GreigFraser_dp and all involved!

Absolutely buzzing. If only every superhero blockbuster could be this good, this ambitious, this refreshingly exciting and alive. I could have had three hours more and still been begging for it to never end. What a gem.

"Comic book films have sucked a lot of oxygen from the cinematic room, but with Batman we have an opportunity to use the trappings of that genre to explore some things…through a lens of crime and corruption that are really grounded and relevant and interesting." - Jeffrey Wright

"(This is) the thing that distinguishes Batman from any other series…the detective work is an exploration of Gotham, but it also becomes an exploration of a city very much like NYC...an American metropolis. I've really grown to appreciate what Batman represents in a deeper way.”

It’s not a film, nor DC- not since 2006, anyway- but @TheBoysTV is excellent! Smart, brutal, and an absolute riot whether you love or are sick of superheroes. The cast is amazing, it feels like a movie, and it somehow gets even better every episode. Highly recommend! #TheBoys

What's more, for a big cast, every character is given such dimension which makes them so much more surprising and interesting than you'd expect- especially the women, for a show called #TheBoys! It's now my favorite superhero show, and one of the year's best superhero 'movies.'

#Venice2019 artistic chief Alberto Barbera gives high praise to #Joker — ‘It’s the most surprising film we’ve got this year…This one’s going straight to the Oscars even though it’s gritty, dark, violent. It has amazing ambition & scope’ (via @variety | bit.ly/2LHUXEM)
