Something small happened in my X experiment that may reveal something much bigger.
Last night, Ricardo Dias @theslowtell commented on one of my posts. I liked his thoughtful response.
This morning, X placed Ricardo’s newest post in my feed only 13 minutes after he published it. It had seven views.
Its subject of outsourcing human judgment to AI was also an almost perfect match for my interests.
It could be coincidence. But it looks as though X combined two signals:
• Semantic relevance.
• A new relationship created through interaction.
My feed is not merely an interest graph. It is also a relationship graph being redrawn in real time.
That reveals a deeper form of platform power.
The algorithm doesn’t merely decide what gets seen. Through reach, replies, likes and silence, it controls much of the feedback that teaches creators what gets through.
Then we feed those results into AI. It finds patterns and helps us optimise the next post for rules we still cannot inspect.
Human → AI → Content → Algorithm → Feedback → Human.
AI has democratised the means of production and analysis.
Platforms still control much of the means of distribution and the feedback that shapes future production.
The algorithm is no longer merely choosing what we see.
It is quietly influencing who we notice and teaching creators what to make.
We are becoming more capable.
But are we becoming more sovereign?
I don't know whether to laugh or cry this news is so disturbing to me. Should it be a surprise? College is big business!
