💔MUST LISTEN Woke up this morning still haunted by hearing this episode of @cbcideas. All of these doctors who have held Palestinian children until they died, knowing they died when these sweet babies let go of the doctors' shirts; while none of our elected officials have done anything material to stop the genocide even after 3 years, in fact, they still enable it. And thinking of my dear friend, Dr. Ben Thomson, whose advocacy has been so important to open the eyes of many of us. His colleague and friend, nephrolosit, Dr. Hammam Alloh was murdered by Israel in November 2023, because he was a Palestinian doctor who dared to stay at Al Shifa Hospital to care for his patients, and he dared to speak to the world about Israel's crimes. I can only imagine the heartbreak to hear Hammam's voice alongside yours in this episode, while the genocide rages on. Read Dr. Thomson's thread below about his beloved brother Dr. Hammam Alloh – one of millions of Palestinians, targeted by Israel, just for being Palestinian. Please take the time to listen to the episode. These were Ben and Hammam's last messages.
Thanks @CBCNews IDEAS - the brilliant Naheed Mustafa for interviewing 5 Canadian Eyewitnessgaza doctors who've been to Gaza since the genocide started in October 2023 This is one of the finest pieces of journalism I've ever had the honor to be part of . Asked specifically about the 1985 Supreme Court decision that resulted in oral hearings for refugee claimants, that led to the creation of the Immigration Refugee Board, Canada's largest administrative tribunal, this immigration minister said, "There are many Singhs and many decisions." Leave aside the fact that she doesn't know the case (although that too is surprising). It's the fact that she doesn't know that's the case that is the sticking point ... the issue in contention for the risk assessment framework under the new legislation: Strengthening Canada's Immigration System and Borders Act that seemingly does away with oral hearings. She *would* have been briefed re the arguments raised by advocates against these provisions. SCC Singh, of course, would be central among them and litigation is proceeding before the federal court as we speak. The minister, with her somewhat dismissive/offhand (and somewhat off-putting) comment about the number of Sikh applicants *generally* has revealed that she is both unprepared and incurious about her file.

Great piece, and this probably sums up Bradford for me
I had breakfast with Brad Bradford and asked him what I think is the defining question of his campaign: Why do so many people from all ends of the political spectrum seem to dislike him so much as a person? thestar.com/opinion/contribu…

Calling a fellow Jew a danger to Jews, invoking rodef and moser, explaining when “reasoned debate” should end, and opening with a story about dissenters being swallowed alive is quite a way to demonstrate your commitment to communal safety.

I, for one, think it’s completely reasonable to expect that our elected officials have enough spine to refuse a friendly photo op with the representative of a genocidal state that has consistently flouted international law while demanding Canadian subservience.
Nenshi apologizes for a photo taken of him with the Israeli ambassador, which of course is a dumb capitulation. What was he supposed to do, refuse to stand next to him? And how does he propose he would serve as premier, representing Alberta's interests, if he won't even stand next to people he opposes?

Every time I hear Carney doing this bit, I feel like the last sane person on Earth. A person who is eligible for bail has not been convicted of a crime. The impetus is on the Crown to prove guilt. Judging a crime on a previous record is inadmissible “prejudice.” This is scary.

Genuinely, this is delusional paranoia. Canada is probably one of the SAFEST places in the world to be a Jew right now, I live a life of great comfort here, and I don't even have the kind of wealth this guy does. The leader of the Federal NDP is a Jew, we hold positions of power.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya refused to abandon his patients in Gaza. He buried his own son in the hospital courtyard after he was killed by an Israeli drone that struck the entrance of Kamal Adwan Hospital. He kept the hospital running through Israel’s brutal 85-day siege, and didn’t stop fighting for his patients even when the Israeli military raided the hospital and kidnapped dozens of hospital workers. For that, the Israeli military kidnapped him a year and a half ago, and now he's been beaten, starved, thrown in solitary, and is in critical condition — all for trying to save Palestinian lives. In his last meeting with his lawyer, Dr. Abu Safiya said “They brought me here to kill me.” Dr. Abu Safiya must be released immediately, along with the thousands of Palestinians the Israeli government is holding without charge or trial, who are now at risk after the Knesset passed a law that allows the death penalty for Palestinians. Kidnapping one of Gaza's few remaining doctors while bombing its hospitals and killing over 1700 health care workers is yet another facet of Israel’s genocide — and it is being carried out with American weapons, paid for with our tax dollars. Palestinians have survived three years plus a century of ethnic cleansing, genocide and aparthied. Enough is enough. In Congress, I will fight tooth and nail to cut off the endless flow of weapons and American taxpayer dollars to Israel as it violates countless international laws and indiscriminately bombs civilians across multiple countries at once.

My experience has been the same. For goodness sake, Amira Hass--a Jewish Israeli--lived in Gaza for four years and has lived in Ramallah ever since. The idea that Palestinians can't tell the difference between a Jew, even an Israeli Jew, and a soldier or settler coming to do them harm illustrates the anti-Palestinian racism that, sadly, pervades both the US and much of the Jewish community
“Go to Jenin as a Jew,” they say, “see how they treat you.” Okay. I went back for the third time. This time a couple of tough guys from the refugee camp challenged me to an armwrestling tournament. I won’t be sharing the remaining footage, but suffice it to say, I survived.
