This week's Board of Education meeting will be held at Curie High School and, for the first time since I've been covering CPS, will take place in the evening in a neighborhood and not downtown. Here's the agenda: bit.ly/2PszxuL

This is something that should be presented to the Community Action Councils
Today 150 teachers, principals, board members, community leaders and students convened to review the draft equity framework. We appreciate your feedback and advocacy. I can't think of a better set of accountability partners. 🥰

Some of us have made plans for the day before Thanksgiving earlier after checking the CPS calendar. This will not be a day of instruction and what is to stop the teachers from taking sick or personal days. January 2nd makes no sense either.
As part of the agreement to end the CTU strike, CPS committed to making up 5 of the 11 instructional days that were missed during the strike. The make-up days must be scheduled on days on which teachers would not otherwise be paid, which severely limited the district’s options.

Teachers are striking but children want to be in school. More than 70 students were in attendance at Englewood STEM High School today. There were no teachers there but they did pre- PSAT test and other academic activities. @Network16 @hchipjohnson @janicejackson

Why are these officers still working for CPD. Both should have been charged with aggravated assault to a minor and several counts of child abuse.

The article doesn't mention that a school's LSC and principal can decide not to have police at their school.
CPS, stop perpetuating risky, often dangerous, situations and focus on increasing access to professionals who are trained to help students. We need more social workers, counselors, and clinicians NOW! #NoCPDinCPS chicago.suntimes.com/2019/7/…

I think think this statement is wrong and misleading. Because a person is a teacher doesn't mean their family valued education. (I am not going to get into the use if the word decent) In my experience most teachers were influenced by an educator who had an impact on their life.
The highlighted is so hard to understand bc most teachers came from decent families that valued education. I think it's hard for them to imagine what some of our kids' lives are like. And some parents do care, but there are other priorities, like keeping the lights on.
