Twelve years after its liberation from ISIS, Kobani remains a symbol of resistance. Yet war, poverty, and renewed restrictions continue to shape daily life, leaving residents questioning whether the siege ever truly ended. theamargi.com/posts/kobani-c…

It is URGENT!!! Universities in Rojava are under immense pressure from the Syrian state, which is seeking to take over the universities, change the language of instruction from Kurdish to Arabic, and much more. Please read their call for solidarity:

Syrian presidential adviser @MazloumAbdi met with Kobani Regional Director Îbrahîm Muslim at the directorate’s building to discuss the Kobani prison fire in which 9 died, 17 others were injured.
@MazloumAbdi said that an independent and transparent investigation should be launched and that those responsible should be held accountable - ANF
"The relevant authorities have launched a comprehensive and transparent investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident and hold those responsible for negligence accountable. The findings of the investigation will be announced clearly and transparently" - @MazloumAbdi

These developments show that many people feel:
- poorer,
- less secure, AND
- less politically and socially equal
than they were before the integration of the northeast into the central state.
That doesn't portend a stable future.

Update from Kobani: I am told HTS-affiliated Syrian security forces from outside the region remain with at least 12 vehicles and are harassing residents and making arrests.
The U.S. and intl community must press them to leave to protect residents and allow funeral processions.
Calm has reportedly returned to Kobani as HTS-affiliated Syrian security forces leave the city. Reports indicate that Mazloum Abdi has arrived.
This needless confrontation left at least 8 people dead and 17 injured, with reports that opposing forces drew weapons on one another.
The U.S. and international community must push back when Damascus deploys outside forces instead of relying on qualified local SDF brigades already integrated into the Syrian government.
My condolences to the family of Sami Sapan, who was brutally murdered, and to the families of the protesters reportedly killed in detention.
Praying for peace and healing in Kobani and throughout Syria, while deeply frustrated that Syrians are once again paying the price for violence that could—and should—have been avoided.

PKK wants the YBŞ to integrate into the Iraqi army and a Yezidi self-administration in Sinjar, but keep some form of command and control as a local defense force.
"Their self-defense forces want to integrate with the Iraqi army but also want to be a local defense force affiliated with the Iraqi army."
PKK-KDP relations changing?
Mustafa Karasu, member of the (PKK) KCK Executive Council in a recent interview: "previously, Turkey and the KDP really put a lot of pressure on the Iraqi government. Turkey and the KDP had a very strong influence on the Iraqi government’s negative approach toward Şengal and the Êzidîs, but now the situation has changed. We are carrying out a process with Turkey, and in this process, relations with the KDP are not what they used to be. In the cause of this process, Rêber (leader) Apo (Ocalan) also sent greetings to KDP officials."
