Like her or hate her, Susan Collins will go down as one of the most significant figures in Maine’s political history and was one of the most bipartisan members of the Senate in a time of heavy partisanship recently. A legendary career is officially over #MEpolitics
Statement from Susan Collins:
"It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Maine in the United States Senate. I'm proud of all I have been able to accomplish for our state and for our country in the past 30 years."
"I called Troy Jackson tonight to congratulate him and to assure him that my staff and I will work to ensure a smooth transition."
I wrote something about @SenSenatorCollins in 2019. I think she was a good Senator, but I also think she should not have tried to run for a sixth term in this climate. The link for the article is in the response.

The country is not Far Right and it’s not Far Left. Whichever Party manages to figure that out and govern accordingly will do well!

I think Haley Stevens' endorsement of Mike Rogers at this late stage was dumb and unprincipled. There was nothing "gutsy" about it. She sabotaged a career in politics. She should have just kept quiet. (more)

But the Democrats' overreaction is also troubling. It's one more example of the extreme tribalism in our politics. (more)

And let's not forget Mike Rogers' willingness to engage in rhetoric that is Islamophobic. You can disagree with someone without going into the gutter, but in the age of Trump, everything is permissible. (more)

I don’t think I ever remember a race like the Michigan Senate race where literally everyone involved looks terrible. El Sayed sucks, Stevens sucks, Rogers sucks.
As a native Michigander living in Minnesota, I’m not sure if I’d vote for El Sayed or leave it blank.
