Consensus I've seen is that it's always good to have a dedicated steam store page for demos because of the benefit you already mentioned, reviews. Since the reviews go away when the demo page is taken down, it's a safe place for devs to get negative reviews from their actual Steam player base before launching their game. As for why devs would opt out? It's a fairly new system and I feel a lot of devs don't fully understand it or are afraid of doing anything too different from what they see as normal. If your first time finding out about the separate page is when you upload your demo and see a checkbox for having a separate store page or not, I can see wanting to be conservative and opting out. I agree that it's a bit confusing from the player UX perspective, but I feel there's enough overlap between the two store pages that if the player clicks the wrong one, they'll likely still get whatever they went there for. That leads me to assume Valve sees the potential confusion for players as minor compared to the benefits devs get from having a second store page. Valve wants more money and they make money from good games. So they want to help developers make good games and having this temporary review system before launch can really benefit the game's development. That's my thoughts at least. And I believe it lines up pretty well with consensus in the howtomarketagame community.

Hopefully last post on Camera Locks I'm so sorry 🙏 Mirroring the working left camera lock to the right camera lock was way harder than I expected and ended up finding and squashing a bug that affected both! #gamedev #indiedev #Metroidvania

The camera lock (the big blue square that's usually invisible) now smoothly transitions to the normal camera movement even while in the lock! This was hard to figure out but feels really nice! #gamedev #indiedev #Metroidvania
