And then, two lean men who were barely fit enough to play the game, a sacred Greek bird, and the twinkling fingers of a Sardar from Jalandhar.
Twenty five years to the day.

Not that I expect you, or Piyush Goyal, to understand what the word means, but the thing you're describing is called exploitation.
My worry with Carrick staying is that nothing else in the club will change, the players will remain "bluffers", and eventually, Carrick will have to leave the job because the vibes stopped being good.
To give a sense of this.
Nabi opened the bowling today, and, in his first six overs, picked three wickets, often looking unplayable.
After that spell, India bowled 54 more overs in the innings, including a rain break. Nabi bowled four of those overs. 🤷♂️
✍️ New essay.
On waiting, watching life go past you while your feet are chained to the seat. And Aaquib Nabi.
Watching him bowl on Day One for India-A was another reminder that he, after Bumrah and Siraj, is our best red ball bowler. There can be no cricketing justification for his continuous snubbing.

🚨 Michael Carrick will be given chance to turn results around.
Carrick is taking training at Carrington, staff + players preparing #MUFC for Saturday trip to Chelsea.

An op-ed sucking up to El Supremo by Kevinbhai Pietersen, famously known for having his ears on the ground.
Aaquib Nabi can be near unplayable in these conditions, who knew?

The thing I always loved most about @restofworld articles was the focus on the ordinary people behind the global tech headlines.
Incredible storytelling over the years.
Re-sharing one of my all-time favorites from @violazhouyi and @NilChristopher: restofworld.org/2023/foxconn…
Wrote this in June 2025, few days after United's Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspurs.
The rot, and the hubris, is institutional. Manchester United does not get fixed with a new manager or a couple of star players. It's a cycle we've been stuck in for a decade.
The recruitment, sports science, analytics, and coaching have to work towards a clear, coherent vision. And that's been missing for a long time now.
Read, share, subscribe, hydrate.

Expecting a Manchester United fan to be productive on a Monday morning after what we went through the weekend is a human rights violation.

Everyone needs to know what actually happened in Serbia.
Instead of students just protest against their government, the students organized themselves into a student list and ran in elections against their government—and they have just won.
Dear Serbia, congratulations on your victory; you have just opened a new door in protesting. This is history

Smth so fake about US politics. Compared to places where politics is less professionally managed & still about substantive contestations.
Here's Lula's speech before turning himself in. Can see what Rousseau described as politically-educated passions, not de-politicized vibes.

Serbian students overthrowing Vučić is an extraordinary achievement.
In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and 2 months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.
