Composer 2.11 is out 🚀 cooldown dependency policies hold back freshly published package versions for an hour or a day, so compromised releases can be flagged before they reach your composer update. blog.packagist.com/composer-… #php #phpc #composerphp #supplychainsecurity

The PHP vulnerability wasn't easy to exploit, but please know that it *is* exploitable.
Please make sure you patch if you're running your own servers!

Compiling PHP from source is coming along well 😃
So when the next PHP panic hits, we'll be able to deploy security updates within ~24 minutes instead of waiting on upstream dependencies (which took about 4 hours) ⚡️

New Laravel package!
Quittio/quittio: E-invoicing: ZUGFeRD/Factur-X, XRechnung, UBL and Peppol BIS based on EN 16931 github.com/Quittio/quittio
Germany requires e-invoices for B2B from 2027, France/Belgium are rolling out similar rules, so many Laravel apps will need this soon.

Postgres advisory locks are magic until someone calls pg_advisory_lock() instead of pg_try_advisory_lock() inside a high-throughput loop.
Now 40 worker threads wait indefinitely in line, the connection pool exhausts, and the DB looks idle while production burns.

I feel like last week actually raised the wider cultural status of PHP rather than weakening it, feels like everyone and their dog knows how fundamental the language is to running the internet now 😌

The rumors are true....
Today we've released @rector 2.8,
that is 30 % faster than 2.7 out of the box.
And even 3x faster on PHP 8.3+ thanks to PHPStan Turbo.
Huge thanks to @sander_scode
who landed this feature in past 2 weeks 🎉🎉🎉

Last year my design won the PHP Foundation contest for the PHP 8.5 release page.
This year I went further, a full redesign proposal for the php.net homepage and docs, built around PHP 8.6. Just for the love of PHP, and for fun.

It's always:
"Peter Obi is stingy"
"Peter Obi doesn't know how to play the political game"
"Peter Obi is too weak to be a president"
It's never:
"Peter Obi is corrupt".
"Peter Obi mismanaged funds".
That's a huge flex.
Go and get your PVC, you know what to do. ✌🏼

I think one less-known Laravel package will become more important with agentic coding.
Feature flags with Laravel Pennant.
laravel.com/framework/docs/p…
More and more devs will just push to production without deeper code review.
Feature flags may help to enable certain features only for your user or only for your internal team, before showing it to the world.
Yes it's risky and controversial.
And yes I know it's not the classic "correct" way with PRs.
But the more I see @ampcode with Orbs and similar tools, the more I start believing that this is the future, at least for some less-critical projects.
I'm planning to re-review feature flags with Laravel Pennant soon on YouTube.
