Two weeks ago I published a post about a functional modeling approach to event sourcing. This week I'd like to dig deeper into an example implementation in Kotlin. dev.to/jakub_zalas/functiona… #functionalprogramming #eventsourcing #kotlin #arrowkt #ddd #dddesign

I’d be keen to hear @davefarley77’s thoughts too!

If the source of many bugs is prod configuration being different to in testing, and sometimes behaviour or characteristics of external systems can differ from expectations even if the contract is valid, maybe the answer is a bit of both testing against real services and fakes?

And in the CD book it says “acceptance tests are generally end-to-end tests that run on a real working environment that is similar to production”. I think my confusion comes back to there being many different versions of what ‘end-to-end’ means!

That said, in the comments on that video he says acceptance tests are by definition running against a deployed release candidate running in the same config as will be used in production

I think that makes sense when it comes to independent deployability too, and Dave mentions using contract testing to validate the other systems’ interfaces

In Dave’s acceptance testing webinar he seems to make it clear that testing end-to-end including other systems (even those owned by other teams in the same organisation) is an antipatten as you can’t control those systems enough to test everything you need to

The timing of the TypeScript drama can’t be an accident
SaaS has reigned supreme for long enough. The Church of Recurring Revenue is due a reformation. It’s time for more choices in web software that you buy ONCE and run yourself. Starting late 2023, you’ll see such products available from @37signals. once.com

In a healthy tbd team of around 6 engineers, could easily have 20 commits to main per day. Imagine instead, 20 PRs raised per day. lmao. This is why the short-lived thing never pans out in practice, you batch things up to save context switching, and then you've lost CI.

#ChatGPT just wrote this test with me after a handful of bits of instruction. It felt like pairing with an extremely competent software developer who just was unfamiliar with a couple particular bits of some APIs. Remote interviews will be *very* interesting going forward 😂

I am having an unreasonable amount of fun seeing how you can have a far more reasonable time making interactive websites with #golang and @htmx_org . No NodeJS, SPA hell, just rendering fragments of HTML on the server and HTMX makes the composition and interactions a breeze

A @cucumberbdd / @BehatPHP anti pattern is when a step definition has to do too much _stuff_ It indicates that the API or interface it's interacting with is not aligned with the underlying business actions

For every example of Bad Tailwind™ I could find and provide 10 examples of bad CSS/SASS that are actually worse. The problems that Bad Tailwind provides are FAR less impactful to productivity than bad CSS.

I've seen several "DDD with Laravel" articles/books now that have nothing to do with DDD and include no references to original source material either. I don't think we should accept this. If anything, invent your own approach to development and give it a nice *new* name.
