Happy birthday to the inimitable
@RonCarterBass--there's only one of those--who turns 87 today & continues to play at an insanely high level. I love his bass-piano-guitar trio he introduced on record in 1994 w/Kenny Barron & Herb Ellis. youtube.com/watch?v=Eg0z2HRW… #JazzFromDetroit
All you atomic physicists who are still here e.g., @orzelc @SpinVector I was minding my own business doing a six year old crossword puzzle and what do I find but a clue for a “pioneering Danish physicist!”
.@Atrios I know it’s that fantastic newspaper again but really? Is this how Ashley Wu and her editors wish to present the political news of the day?
Our reporter Ashley Wu explains how the campaign styles of the top three Republican candidates differ despite similar policy stances. nyti.ms/426BdPr
I really enjoyed listening to this episode. However, I don’t believe Lulu Miller won’t remember her child making her greet her multiple shadows and that it’s a boring parent experience. I’m going to remember it now! My morning’s walk is a strong memory thanks to Radiolab
In today's episode, Producer Sindhu Gnanasambandan wants to know how she can live the longest feeling life possible. The answer leads her on a journey to make one week feel like two. And the journey leads her to a whole new answer.

Richard Feynman ran a class where he was supposed to answer student questions but really he just told stories. Only tangents. Some of the stories are in his books but some weren’t

I’ve been listening to the audio book of Emily Wilson’s translation of the Odyssey (the Iliad wasn’t quite released when I got it). I’m enjoying it but I was definitely finding myself yelling at Telemachus to grow up

Today’s cocktail is the Key Party from Death & Co.’s black book of cocktails. I’m making a few substitutions but the recipe calls for gin, bonal gentiane-quina, amaro nardini, and green chartreuse #cocktailcodex
Went to a great show at the new (to me anyway) Crystal Ballroom at the Somerville Theatre: Mehmet Ali Sanlikol featuring Anat Cohen and Miguel Zenon. Thanks for producing a fun show @globalartslive
This was our first @globalartslive set since the start of the pandemic and only our second indoor music. (The first was at @TheRegattabar last week.) We got a sweet “welcome back” card from the folks at Global Arts. We appreciated it!
Back at the @TheRegattabar for the first time since 2019 for the Ethan Iverson trio. It’s my first indoor jazz since the pandemic.
I missed the ninth anniversary of Jason Moran’s “All Rise: A Joyful Elegy for Fats Waller” yesterday - it was the Jewish New Year in my defense - but I’m listening now. His set at #NewportJazzFest on this album feels like it was yesterday: Fats Waller in Kinshasa.

I hope all my friends and (former) colleagues on the top of the volcano at the observatories are OK. This looks awful for them and all the wonderful people of La Palma
At least 500 people have been evacuated due to a forest fire on the Spanish island of La Palma, as stated by authorities on Saturday. This is the first significant natural crisis to occur on the island since the volcanic eruption in 2021.

I’ll check out Jordyn Davis’s curated playlist soon. First, I’ll listen to her music. Why haven’t I heard her before?
"This is a collection of music that is very near and dear to my heart, that has inspired me over the last few years to try new things and be open to new sounds, new stories, and new experiences in life, to help inform how I tell my own, through sound." buff.ly/3ZqRHjj
