Kalshi just raised an additional $1B, valuing the company at $40B. This will help us expand into stocks, compute, indices, and institutional. Tomorrow marks 8 years since we got accepted into YC and the journey began. The odds of a kid from Lebanon getting here were pretty low. Growing up there was great, but very challenging. We went through war. We had bombs explode in front of my house. I watched brilliant people’s lives destroyed for reasons beyond their control. Lebanon is an unpredictable country. That unpredictability made it hard to plan for success. And yet despite it all, my mom sacrificed everything to give me and my brother the chance to go back to the US. I found my refuge in two things: anime and math. Especially math. I loved math because it calmed me. It was the opposite of unpredictable: clear, deterministic, orderly, and consistent. The proof is either right or wrong. I find that elegant and beautiful. I was lucky. I made it to my dream school, MIT (largely thanks to my mom), and my love for math quickly translated to a love for statistics, probability, and markets. I love markets for a lot of the same reasons. Their incentives are clear: you get rewarded for being right and for pursuing knowledge. They are effective weighting machines for people’s opinions. They provide an incentive to be truthful, because they separate good information from bad information. They let people challenge the consensus and be rewarded for being right. IMO, Hayek, Surowiecki, Hanson, Tetlock were the founding fathers of prediction markets. The more I read them, the more obsessed I got with the idea of applying market-based pricing to more things. Markets bring rigor and critical thinking to more questions. And in an increasingly polarized and information-positioned word, I believe we need that more than ever. Markets would also let people predict and manage more things outside of their control. And the world was becoming increasingly more unpredictable, and more like Lebanon, not less. That love for markets got Luana and me to build Kalshi. At first, it was mostly an idea we couldn’t stop talking about. We didn’t have much money. Luana’s sister bought the Kalshi domain name for us (for ~$1.7k). We moved to SF to get started, and embarked on a long, uncertain journey to build a regulated exchange. The paranoia and anxiety from my childhood never left me. Even when things are going well, I think about what could go wrong. When people trust you with their money, that instinct serves a purpose. I wanted us to build something that would hold up under pressure. The first principle we defined at the company: regulatory-first. We worked with regulators for years before we listed a single market. We took every step to do things the right way and always asked for approval before proceeding. It was very hard at times, especially when we were being overtaken by competitors, but we believe doing things the right way matters. Luana and I aren’t the only ones. Our team put years of their lives into something far from certain. That’s especially true of Lior, Brandon, Rainer, Luis, Xavier, and Josef, who stuck with us for years. They believed when there was little to point to. And they stuck with us no matter how long it took. Kalshi is the result of an arduous journey through a long desert where, at times, most people didn’t understand why we were making the walk. Many people still don’t understand what we’re doing and some disagree with us. Markets have historically taken time to be understood and accepted by some. But while not always obvious, their benefits are vast: capital markets help allocate capital and derivative markets help predict and manage uncertainty. I firmly believe in these benefits, and that’s why I am dedicating my life to building this market. Markets have caused issues many times in the past, and they certainly can present harms (manipulation, insiders, and addictive behaviors). These harms are more acute for certain types of markets (sports, short-term options, etc.) than others. It’s why I believe that guardrails need to exist and why we have taken the approach we have taken. We have consistently prioritized thinking critically about the risks and building the appropriate safeguards, sometimes beyond what the regulators require us to do. Many believe more needs to be done, and that’s a conversation I welcome. Over time, I believe more people will see what we see: markets can help us get smarter and manage the future with more rigor, more precision, and more certainty than we have today. To our tens of millions of users: you have made Kalshi bigger than anything Luana and I could have possibly imagined. Thank you for trusting us and thank you for coming along on the journey. I feel a strong responsibility to build a company worthy of that trust. I am so lucky to spend my life building something I love. I hope everyone finds something they care about that much. Something that keeps you curious. Something that pushes you to your limits. Something that may put you at odds with the status quo. Something worth the hard days. For me, it’s still markets. The more I learn, the more I want to understand.

Today we're announcing our $40M Series A at a $400M valuation, led by @a16z , with participation from existing investors @8vc, @pearvc, and @BloombergBeta and new investors @HRTVentures and @nextladder. Alongside the fundraise, three more announcements: - Vals Smith: is now generally available. Anyone can create a custom coding benchmark from any GitHub repo with 120 free credits to get started. - Frontier Risk Benchmarks: We are releasing the RSI Index in collaboration with @CoreWeave and just launched ReverseEngBench, a new cyber benchmark built with Columbia University, Tufts University, UC Berkeley, and UCLA. We are also sharing our initial work in mental health, with more to come across environmental impact, military, and biosecurity. - Website + Vals Index 2.0: We completely rebuilt the Vals website and have released Vals Index 2.0, with coverage of more of the economy. Our revenue has already grown 8x compared to all of 2025. Our customer base doubled and the team tripled in 6 months. Our results have been cited in model cards from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, and xAI. The AI economy runs on self-reported grades. When a model ships, the scores come from the company that built it. No other trillion-dollar industry works this way. Finance has ratings agencies. Medicine has the FDA. AI has vibes and vendor benchmarks. We built Vals to be the independent evaluation layer the industry is missing. Check out our new website and try Vals Smith!

When I first invested in Kalshi, the idea of launching regulated perps felt ambitious yet attainable after meeting n of 1 engineers like Lior. For those not deep into market structure and derivatives, this is a very big deal. After years of waiting, perpetual futures are coming onshore, only on Kalshi. I expect this category to do tens of billions in volume a month. Derivative markets are now a lot more interesting and happy to see one of my portfolio companies leading the charge to revolutionize finance in America 🇺🇸

My favorite Kalshi value is "Climbing the steeper mountain." As testament, a few years ago during tougher times, our team climbed a literal mountain of boulders (with @luanalopeslara on crutches!!) to get us back on track. On the climb we learned: Time moves slower: what looks like a quick success is the result of people never taking a single day for granted. Motivation comes from within: seeing a peak is gratifying, but you only get there by believing first. Never give up: the only risk to not reaching the peak is to stop moving. Better with friends: @mansourtarek_ refusing my excuses, and @liorhir walking with me when I struggled. Don't leave the group: individual success isn't better than building something greater than the collective. Today's raise marks new peaks, friends (maybe you 👀), challenges, and beautiful moments along the way. This journey has been the privilege of my life, and I'm grateful for each step.
Kalshi raised $1B at a $22B valuation led by Coatue, with participation from Morgan Stanley, Sequoia, a16z, and others. In 2018, we were two kids who loved math, markets, and debate. And we had a dream: build the next generation financial market, where we capture a broader set of questions and harness the power of the masses to price them better than Wall Street. Kalshi was born to fulfill that dream. Today, most of these questions are traded indirectly, priced through imprecise proxies or negotiated bilaterally in opaque, restricted, relationship-driven markets. But thanks to our incredible community of users who make our markets work, Kalshi has the opportunity to change that by turning historically fragmented and untradeable risk into open, liquid, and standardized markets. We’ve seen this movie before. When interest rates, currencies, commodities, and crypto moved from dark to lit markets, volume did not just migrate: access expanded, new use cases emerged, and the opportunity grew by orders of magnitude. Today, Kalshi represents over 90% of US prediction market volume and the majority of activity globally, with annualized volume growing to $178B over the past 6 months. What started as retail is quickly becoming institutional — hedge funds, asset managers, prop firms, and insurers are beginning to trade, provide liquidity, and hedge real-world risk directly. The scope and scale of prediction markets are just beginning to take shape. We’re using this new capital to accelerate the institutional adoption underway — unlocking trillions in capital to facilitate active trading and risk management. Prediction markets are moving from early adoption to core financial infrastructure. This is just the beginning.

When I joined Kalshi back in 2020, the company had just received the regulatory designation it needed to act as a prediction market in the US (after years of work from @luanalopeslara and @mansourtarek_ ), but we still had to actually build the exchange. As an engineer, it felt like such a gift to be a part of that process: the whole team had such conviction in these markets. We dreamed of the day they would be hooked up to trading terminals and referenced by news anchors worldwide. I thought: “if we can just get the systems up and running, people will come.” When we processed our first trade, it felt amazing. But I was also hit with the reality that what we had was not enough: how could we scale to millions of markets a day? How could we support collateral return and margin on events? How do we make even low volume markets liquid? Unlike building a matching engine, these were (and some remain) open questions that hadn’t been solved by a financial exchange before. Thankfully, the team is composed of many of the most hardworking and passionate people I’ve ever met, so though tackling these problems has meant a lot of late nights, it’s never meant a late night alone (shout out to @_rainerds who has been my grinding buddy since the beginning). I'm so grateful to be working alongside each one of you. There is still so much left to do. If you’re interested in joining us, I’d love to chat!

I wanted new bedsheets last month, so I turned to Amazon and ChatGPT but got taken in circles through SEO slop and had to churn. Yesterday I got off the Zamana waitlist and 15 minutes later had a new set of bedsheets on the way. Killer app!
This is why I’ve been hiding from the internet for 2 years…

I have a confession to make. We thought Kalshi would be an instant success. Of course we did; our team was full of evangelists and missionaries who believed in prediction markets. Better yet, Tarek and Luana had already done the hard part: spending two years to get an exchange license. But... we had no exchange. What followed was an eight-month gauntlet of technical challenges, business negotiations, and regulatory whiplash. When we finally launched, we thought we’d made it. But no one cared. This is one of many stories that defines Kalshi. Even through painful, consistent, and creative work, growth was never promised. But the hard times built us up—they taught us how to create from nothing. We fought for every inch of growth and figured out what worked by trying everything that didn't. When no one else wanted to, we built our own clearinghouse, brokerage, and liquidity. We yearned for growth so badly that we risked the company to democratize elections. $11B sounds surreal, but we all knew we'd make it here. And we still have so much more to give. Time to put our money where our mouth is. I like our odds.
Kalshi raised $1B at an $11B valuation. A decade ago, only a few thousand people knew what a prediction market was. Eighteen months ago, most prediction markets were banned - until we overcame the government to set them free. Over the past seven years, our community has opened up an entirely new category. Today, Kalshi is trusted, used, and loved by millions of people. It’s a part of everyday culture, and it’s driving one of the most important shifts in consumer behavior in recent history. The time has finally come for prediction markets to achieve their full potential and we are intent on making that happen. To all the believers and the early adopters: thank you.

I’m excited to announce our $185M Series C valuing Kalshi at $2B. The round was led by Paradigm with participation from Sequoia, Multicoin, Peng Zhao, Neo, and Bond Capital. People choose to work at Kalshi not because of the money we've raised, but because of our ambition: build the most important financial market on the planet. Today, we celebrate our team and community who have taken prediction markets mainstream and made Kalshi one of the fastest growing companies in America. What once felt impossible now looks inevitable.
