В колонке для The Wall Street Journal Макконнелл назвал попытку добиться мира давлением на жертву агрессии заведомо провальной, а политику Трампа в отношении Кремля — «фактически ошибочной, стратегически наивной и морально несостоятельной». По его словам, снятие санкционного давления не склоняет путина к миру, а убеждает его, что США проявляют слабость.
Но главное здесь не очередная словесная порка. Макконнелл дал понять, что прекращение уступок Москве может стать фактически условием поддержки республиканцами законопроектов, которые Трамп хочет провести через Конгресс до конца года. То есть спор о российском дизеле и санкциях впервые прямо перекидывается на внутреннюю повестку Белого дома.
Это уже потенциальный рычаг. Макконнелл ранее вместе с ещё пятью республиканскими и шестью демократическими сенаторами потребовал отменить разрешение на российский дизель, назвав сделку «подарком нашему противнику». Теперь один из самых влиятельных республиканцев Сената предупреждает Трампа: продолжишь вознаграждать фюрера — проблемы могут начаться уже с голосами за твои собственные законы.

Why the sudden exit plan? Hegseth is terrified that Democrats will impeach him once they’re back in power because of his disastrous tenure at the Pentagon. The fucking hubris of these assholes mistaking their net worth on paper as validity of anything is fucking astounding. It really is.
Elon Musk, we Ukrainians know perfectly well what our internal problems are. We will deal with them ourselves, through our own democratic institutions.
We do not need you to decide who should govern Ukraine.
Right now, Russia is our enemy. Russia invaded our country. Russia is killing our people.
Either you fail to understand what Ukrainians are fighting for, or you understand perfectly well and choose to ignore the consequences of your rhetoric.
Your words do not exist in a vacuum. When you repeat narratives that shift attention away from Russian aggression and toward removing Ukraine’s elected leadership, you risk helping those who want to undermine our resistance.
We are fighting for our survival, our sovereignty, and our right to determine our own future.
You do not get to take that right away from us.
And perhaps, before lecturing Ukrainians about democracy, you should listen to the people actually living through this war.

Wir müssen abwarten, ob diesen Versprechen echte Taten folgen – oder ob die Vereinbarung am Ende nichts weiter ist als wertloses Papier für die Menschen vor Ort.
