Repost and reply for a chance to win this autographed Paul Skenes @Topps card!
Paul Skenes turns 24 today! Last year, Skenes became only the third pitcher to win the Rookie of the Year and Cy Young within the first two seasons of his career, following:
Fernando Valenzuela (ROY & Cy Young 1981)
Dwight Gooden (ROY 1984, Cy Young 1985)

ALT Pictured: A three-photo collage of Fernando Valenzuela, Dwight Gooden and Paul Skenes. Left - Fernando Valenzuela delivers a pitch. He wears a white Los Angeles Dodgers jersey with blue lettering, blue cap and brown baseball glove. Center - Dwight Gooden delivers a pitch. He wears a white pinstriped New York Mets jersey with blue and orange lettering, blue cap and black baseball glove. Right - Paul Skenes delivers a pitch. He wears a black Pittsburgh Pirates jersey with yellow lettering, black cap and black baseball glove.
To me, this sort of crime and attack on Democracy should carry a Life in Prison sentence.
Leaked recording of GA county election official Julie Adams, on possible post-Nov 5 plans: “Maybe we all find discrepancies & we file an immediate injunction. Maybe we go to the press. Maybe, when we’re certifying, we say we’re certifying under protest.” newyorker.com/news/the-polit…
The Dodgers were smart to try to find a Mexican star & got SO lucky finding Fernando. His skill & personality built that franchise's loyalty amongst Mexican's in LA. Driving around LA I sometimes wonder what the city would look like if Fernando was never a Dodger. RIP to a legend
We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Dodgers great Fernando Valenzuela.
“Fernandomania” swept through baseball in 1981 when the 20-year old rookie sensation began the season 8-0 with a 0.50 ERA. The lefthander capped off his incredible year by winning both the NL Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Awards while helping lead Los Angeles to a World Series title.
Valenzuela pitched 17 Major League seasons, was a 6-time All-Star, and has the most wins (173) and strikeouts (2,074) of any Mexican-born pitcher.
He spent the last 22 years as a Spanish language broadcaster for the Dodgers, who retired his No. 34 in 2023.
He was 63.
A few great docs on Fernandomania and what it did to Los Angeles, like the ESPN 30 for 30 doc... and this one by the LA Times. youtu.be/4dcvx9i-ahg?si=QqWM…
LOOK BACK is an absolutely gorgeous film. I very literally haven't stopped thinking about it for the past 24 hours.
I had a co-worker who took another job a week after starting his current job, I asked him why and he made this money-hand gesture. He said jobs are jobs, he didn't care about the project, he'll work for whoever pays the most. My hero! I respect that so much! Get paid!
Luis Tiant was a player before my time, but he was a player whose legacy I would hear about through my dad and other family members. He's the kind of player who was a legend to Cubans and Hispanics of a certain era, a mythical figure within a sport that that island loves.
Way to go, Josh! A movie, A REAL MOVIE, my buddy wrote THIS YEAR is ALREADY COMING OUT! Amazing!

I already knew, but this is officially the worst season in Angels baseball
Being a fan of this team, knowing that it has a deep rot emanating from its core (Arte), is a painful endeavor. The entire ORGANIZATION needs to be torn down to the studs and completely rebuilt
Listening to a baseball podcast where they are talking about a great player retiring. They mentioned, and this is good wisdom for people in animation, or any career-
"People are gonna remember how you treat people more than how you played..."
Found out that FLIGHT anthology alum Joel Carroll passed away. I'll always remember a shocked Kean Soo coming up to me at SDCC '05 or '06 and saying "Joel draws that clean! There's no sketching!!"... RIP Joel
I "read" this book (aka: Listened to David Mitchell read it to me) and I can confirm it's a cracker of a book! Lots of laughs, learnin', and... another L word I'll think of later. London? Sure. Ok.
If Trump's criminal conviction has given you a taste for the humiliation of powerful people with weird gold things balanced on their heads, then you might enjoy my book about kings and queens. Some of them had a hell of a time. It's out now in paperback. waterstones.com/book/unruly/…
The @MLB account only shows home runs as highlights and it's a SNOOZE! Homers are boring. The action ends on the swing.
Congrats, Becky!!!!
You're one of my all around faves! but you know this already!
