’28 RHP/SS James Sobkowiak (IL) displays a quick, whippy arm from a ¾ slot. FB worked 87-90 mph with good action, SL was 74-77 mph and added a CH to round out mix. Creates deception with good mobility and flashed a feel to spin. #UBCMW @HitDogsIllinois

Drew Locascio of @PrepBaseballIL put it right last year when he said “It is now harder than ever and it’s going to continue to get harder” for high school kids to reach the Division I level.
Or, as one mid-major coach I talked to over the weekend said: “The Power 4 schools take my juniors and seniors, and I have to go looking for D2 or D3 juniors and seniors who want to prove they can play at that level.”
Same coach also pointed out that this could have very well been one of the last classes of high schoolers drafted if @MLB has its way. That will push more kids down to D1, making it even harder for kids to reach that level.
So start separating yourself from the pack as soon as possible
A college coach needing an outfielder now chooses between a 22-year-old with three years of college at-bats and a projection of your seventeen-year-old. I have heard the coaches say it plainly: why gamble when I can buy certainty. Your son beats the portal one way, by being the student, teammate, and worker a program wants for four years, not rented for one. Build that, and the sure thing stops being his enemy.

Tomas Valincius was given one more batter last night... a pitch away from a 7 inning 1 run 13 K gem on 111 pitches.
Bub Terrell battles and connects on a 2 run shot to end his night. Valincius' reaction: 'How tf did he hit that?" A beautiful and cruel sport.
