#31DaysOfHorror 'Byzantium' (2013 - UK-Ireland-Belgium-U.S.) A gorgeous #Gothic-#Punk aesthetic permeates this gory, romantic #vampire epic. Two ageless women move into a hotel by the sea. 7.5 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'The Cycle' (2026 - UK-U.S.) A forensic examiner investigates her father's mysterious death. Half #procedural, half #MonsterMovie. Leisurely-paced w/nice production design. 'X-Files' fans might dig it. 6.5 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'X' (2022) - What can I say that hasn't already been said? It wears its inspirations on its sleeve, though it's a solid #slasher with good performances. That's Chelsea Wolfe's haunting voice on the #soundtrack. 8 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror David Cronenberg's 'Videodrome' (1983 - Canada). A #surreal, compelling discovery narrative of a #man melding with #media. #EroticThriller that gives way to #BodyHorror, and an enigmatic, memorable climax. Unique. 9.5 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'Dr. Phibes Rises Again' (1972). Vincent Price leads a cast of familiar faces in a low-budget #absurdist cross between a #Hammer monster movie and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. Good script. Suitable for young horror fans. 7 out of 10.

In a movie that features its fair share of slapping scenes, Nancy Allen and Betty Buckley ended up shooting their slap scene in 'Carrie' (1976) about 30 times before they nailed it.

#31DaysOfHorror 'A Cure for Wellness' (2016). Beautifully-shot. A shady salaryman takes a Heart-of-Darkness-type journey to what might be a roach motel for rich types run by "ze Germans" and some slippery eels. Disappointing conclusion. 6.5 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'House of Dark Shadows' (1970). Based on the #TVShow. The #Vampire Barnabas gets free in his ancestral home in Maine, and there's a body count while he pursues his reincarnated love. Nice dialog, plus creepy, #Gothic locations. 7.5 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust' (2001). Visually-stunning #anime #Western pastiche with #fantasy and #horror elements. The English dub has superb voice talent; I could listen to Pamela Adlon and John Rafter Lee all day long. 8 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'Friday the 13th: Part 2' (1981). Wait... Jason was alive in Part 1, and he never told his mom? Love how the film lore has become an in-movie campfire tale. We get Baghead Jason, we get booty shorts. Nice kills, Mr. Savini! 6.5 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'Hex' (1980 - Hong Kong). The old "murder victim rises as a vengeful zombie" trope with a few #Chinese #FolkHorror twist(s). CW: domestic abuse, animal abuse (?) and a naked #ghost ritual! Crazy. 6.5 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror George A. Romero's 'The Crazies' (1973) inspired so many #infected/#apocalypse movies to come. After a clunky, melodramatic intro, this #SurvivalHorror narrative gets moving with some great, intense scenes. 7.5 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'Good Boy' (2025) - A #GhostStory told from Indy (the dog)'s perspective, who guards his human companion from a weird presence. Not the first #dog protagonist movie, but perhaps the best. Creepy. 8 out of 10.
#31DaysOfHorror 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' (2005). Courtroom #drama -- with horrific #supernatural events told in flashback -- about an exorcism resulting in the death of a local woman. Bleak, late-fall atmosphere. Scary PG-13 movie. 7.5 out of 10.
