As a longtime writer myself, I would urge my fellow writers from every language to not feel disheartened or discouraged by any of this. Yes, our works being taken by AI and used like this is heartbreaking, but for GenAI to have the kind of functionality that it does, it needs real, original works that's written and created by our sweat and passion. AI cannot replace that. Our place in fandom and in the arts as writers matter. Our expression matters, no matter what some ungrateful readers might have to say. They aren't the reason we create β we write because the blood in our arteries run hot, we write because it's akin to breathing to us.
Let us not be dissuaded by the real reason we picked up our beloved craft β because unlike GenAI, we are very much alive.

Also want to add: privating fics instead of deleting them will also stop people from being able to repost them on Ao3, since you'll be able to easily prove you're the author/you uploaded first.

I've seen a lot of authors consider deleting their work as soon as Ao3 is back up, so I want to offer an alternative solution. You can make your fics private/inaccessiable through a private collection:
So ao3 [dot] life is a website whose domain was JUST registered today, with millions (?) of fics as audiobooks within their database. Honestly this is highly suspicious β DO NOT email this site for taking your fics down, they have no business knowing that kind of information.
OTW's update for this website: They are aware of this and are taking necessary steps. Everyone need not send anymore reports, because it will slow them further down.
Update: there has been an apology, and the site has apparently been taken down. Still, I would like everyone to exercise caution and not give up their information too easily online, and to be on the lookout for similar sites. Remember, community is everything, and we can do much more when we're together than if we're apart.

Warning: I'm gonna turn into a real bitch here for a minute
1- "archive salvation" and you people tell writers we are conceited lmao
2- can you guys really not wait a couple of weeks? Or a month at worst? Really. Like if Ao3 was GONE gone then yeah, things would be different

did it?? good lol and oh I believe they 110% had bad intentions. I mean...appearing randomly right after the ao3 data breach? Asking for people's personal info/bank accounts??? Yeahhhh they just are trying to play innocent because of getting busted lol

i mean we all already knew that the general public sees writing fanfic as a cringy and largely valueless hobby for weirdos but itβs been kinda funny to see that the vast majority of people on this website who literally read it on the regular also think that

also everyone needs to shut up about anne rice because none of you even know what youβre fucking talking about, she wasnβt the only author who had issues with fanfic and I find it misogynistic that sheβs the only one who has been turned into this huge fandom bogeyman

she doxxed people and scared fanfic writers with legal threats to the point they deleted her entire category. i canβt think of another author sending cease and desists. they just vocally disapprove. she took down entire communities.

Playing the victim after three days of harassing and dismissing every writer who expressed they didn't like their work reuploaded YOU CANNOT BE REAL
moans retweeted
Actually, do not delete your fics when the archive comes back on. Private them but don't take them off the site. Once deleted it becomes infinitely more difficult to prove authorship and thus more difficult to protect against scrapers, thieves, plagiarizers and the like

More Kim Dokja thoughts: He isn't one to verbalise affection.
Kim Dokja is a man who uses his words thoughtfully. He speaks well and when he wants, he speaks plenty. Yet, when it comes to vulnerability, he massively sucks at being open about it.
Kim Dokja isn't keen on saying that he loves someone, for sure. He's very good at expressing it subconsciously with his actions: by providing, guiding, giving gifts, and ultimately, sacrificing himself.
Kim Dokja can definitely acknowledge that he holds affection in some way for people. He understands that he feels deeply for someone. But he also feels that his feelings are atypical β he doesn't feel "love" like how the rest of the world professes to feel that sort of thing.
Kim Dokja feels like something is wrong with him, that he's not someone who's capable of a feeling like love, not for any individual in his life, and definitely not in the way he's supposed to be.
(Which is objectively not true. Feeling an emotion doesn't look just one way, you can feel an emotion in a completely different way than someone else. Kim Dokja is just a certified dumbass when it comes to vulnerability.)

"Kim Dokja, do you think there's another universe where we meet?"
She looked up at the man, whose eyes watched the night sky right above them. Han Sooyoung noted every dip and every curve of the face like it was her last time, pale skin illuminated by the moon and stars.

If you already did, donβt panic!! <3 Iβd just stop sending them anything further. And if you reused that password anywhere else, change it there too, and turn on 2FA if you havenβt already.

as a platform β for example, issues involving mass scraping, misuse of AO3βs name/branding, interference with the Archive, or broader legal/technical concerns affecting the site and its users collectively.

The distinction is basically between AO3 as a whole and individual fics.
OTW canβt file a copyright takedown on behalf of every individual author, because OTW does not own the copyright to our fanworks β we do.
But OTW can still take action where AO3 itself is affected +
The domain's current registration dates from Nov 1, three days after AO3 went down, yet the site claims 15.8 million works. You can't copy that from an AO3 that's offline: the content was already saved before this site appeared. 1/5

Contact the domain host instead, you don't have to use your AO3 email, only provide proof of your ownership of the content and include all the offending links in one email.
