It's so exciting to see my former lab mates & friends land awesome jobs and start their own labs! Ratan is super smart & a great scientist, but more importantly, he's a kind & thoughtful person. Don't sleep on the opportunity to join his lab!
🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 I'm thrilled to announce that I will be joining #GeorgiaTech as an Assistant Professor starting Jan 1, 2024! I'm actively recruiting members to join the lab. So please spread the word! The lab website also goes live today. murtylab.com/

Nice review paper from @sophiescott's group on song responses in human auditory cortex. Lots of exciting questions for future research, a few of which we're hoping to tackle in @SamNormanH's lab...
Does human auditory cortex process the singing voice as more than sung speech, and if so, why? A new paper by Ilana Harris, Efe Niven, @aegriffcogneuro and me - read it here nature.com/articles/s41583-0…

Love this work by my former lab-mate @heatherlkos (and @SamNormanH & @Nancy_Kanwisher) showing that even very young infants have neural responses that are selective for music. This was a big open question from my own PhD research, and it's great to be closer to an answer.

I also loved getting in the recording booth to provide the flute lullaby stimuli for the experiment. Most fun stimulus recording session ever! 🎵

This is a fantastic opportunity for post-bac folks interested in cognitive neuroscience! @Nancy_Kanwisher is an incredible mentor & her lab is a great place to do science (I miss it!). Apply, apply, apply!
New opening for a full-time lab tech in the Kanwisher Lab; apply here: careers.peopleclick.com/care… Very strong math and computer skills and a serious interest in the human brain required. This position is an ideal stepping stone toward to graduate programs in cognitive neuroscience.

Had a fantastic time at the International Conference on Auditory Cortex (ICAC) in Magdeburg, Germany! Got to hang with old friends and meet new ones, hear about all kinds of exciting science, and consume lots of yummy German beer and sausages. 🧠🍻🇩🇪 #ICAC2022

Really enjoyed playing a small part in this project spearheaded by @GretaTuckute & @jenellefeather, examining the relationship between the representations of sounds in auditory deep neural networks (DNNs) and human auditory cortex. Check out the tweetprint & the preprint!

It's been over a week, but I'm still basking in the afterglow of ✨#ComSciCon22✨ and digging deeper into the amazing #scicomm stories & resources our participants shared. So I appreciate this 🧵 by @eco_genome summarizing @maddie_sofia's fantastic keynote & linking to more info!
Amazing plenary lecture by @maddie_sofia at @ComSciCon. 👏🏽Maddie share her personal story and passion for inclusive #scicomm. There were laughs, tears, and sharing incredible stories ✨ Check out this thread to read/listen to the stories Maddie shared! 🧵👇🏽 #comscicon2022

Well, that's a wrap on #ComSciCon22! 🎬 It was so gratifying to see things come together after so much hard work by so many people. Savoring the lessons learned from speakers & attendees alike.
Aaaaand Day 3 is over! We are sad that #ComSciCon22 is coming to an end, but so excited about the connections it created! Thank you to all of our #ComSciCon attendees, guests, speakers, and organizers!

It was an absolute pleasure to have @maddie_sofia as our keynote speaker at #ComSciCon22! Feeling inspired & validated by her words, and so appreciative of her candor & humor.
We are joined by award-winning science journalist @Maddie_Sofia for Keynote Lecture “Alone In The Dark Room: Leaving Academia For SciComm,” a conversation about identity, science communication, and her path from academia to NPR podcast host.

I'll also say that @maddie_sofia was a joy to work with, and really tailored her content to our audience. You should def invite her to give a talk about inclusive #scicomm, so-called "#altac" careers, or just to rave about "snot otter" salamanders...

This afternoon at #ComSciCon22 we had a great #scipol panel with Pam DiBona @padibby from @XRBoston/@ScientistRebel1 and physician & state senator Dr. @SaudAnwarCT. Lots of lessons, many of which are captured in this brilliant live sketch by @eco_genome.
Discussion of the impacts of local science policy by @padibby and @SaudAnwarCT at @ComSciCon. They’re keeping it REAL! #comscicon2022

It was so fun to invite @gserratomarks to lead a workshop about disability in STEM & accessible #scicomm at #ComSciCon22. Gabi & I met as @ComSciCon attendees back in 2017, so this feels very full circle. It was also just a stellar (see what I did there @stellatecomms?!) session!
Great overview on how to make #scicomm more accessible through #AltText and creating better video content. Thank you @gserratomarks of @stellatecomms at @ComSciCon #comscicon2022 ✨

Another *fantastic* live sketch by @eco_genome summarizing today's #ComSciCon22 workshop about communicating "controversial science," led by journalist @ShannonGeary.
Thanks to @ShannonGeary at @ComSciCon for a great talk and activity on covering #controversial topics from a journalist’s perspective, where I learned that I do not apparently know how to spell “contriversial”!! #comscicon2022

Absolutely loving @eco_genome's live sketches of our #ComSciCon22 sessions! Here are some of the takeaways from our panel discussion about Diversity in #scicomm featuring science illustrator Gb Kim, astrophysicist & author @huei_sears, and neuroscientist & podcaster @her_science.
First panel at @ComSciCon on diversity, asking the tough questions about decolonizing science, positionality and privilege of sci comm as a practice + concept. Thank you @her_science @huei_sears, and Gb Sears! 🖤#comscicon2022
