Missed the Optimum Mainnet Conversation?
Last week, @get_optimum announced its launch on Ethereum Mainnet!
As part of the launch, @MurielMedard and @kentlinyy joined @blocmates for a livestream to discuss Optimum's mainnet launch and how its mump2p technology is helping data move across Ethereum 2โ3x faster, boosting validator performance and network health.
With $3.4B in Ethereum stake already being boosted by mump2p, there's a lot to learn about what Optimum is building.
If you haven't watched the livestream yet, catch up here. ๐

GenLayer tokenomics, explained so anybody can understand ๐
GenLayer created 4.2 billion GEN at the start. GEN is the money used inside GenLayer. The question is: who owns how much, and when can they use it?
WHO OWNS WHAT
โข Early investors: 13%
โข Early builders & supporters: 19%
โข GenLayer Labs (the company): 18%
โข Foundation (ecosystem caretaker): 20%
โข Community (us): 25%
โข DeepThought DAO (future AI-run group): 5%
Investors, early builders and the company together own half. The community's 25% is the biggest single group.
๐ซCOMMUNITY'S 25%
โข 5.5% is for ecosystem programs and rewards. All of it is available from day one.
โข 19.5% is a growth reserve. A quarter is available from day one, and the rest is released in 8 equal payments, one every 6 months, until month 48.
So the community side is mostly open early. There is no long lock.
๐ฆบWHAT VESTING MEANS
You own it, but you can't sell or send it yet. It is released in stages, like a salary instead of one lump sum. This stops insiders from selling everything the moment the project launches.
๐งโ๐ปWHEN INSIDERS CAN USE THEIRS
โข Investors & Labs: nothing on day one. After 1 year, one third is released. The rest comes in 4 payments, fully free at year 3.
โข Early builders: nothing on day one. After 1 year, 25% is released. The rest comes in 6 payments, fully free at year 4.
HOW MUCH IS FREE TO MOVE
Day one: ~30%
Year 1: ~49%
Year 2: ~68%
Year 3: ~87%
Year 4: 95%
Year 1 is the one to watch. Investors, builders and the company all get their first release at the same time, so the free amount jumps sharply.
๐LOCKED TOKENS CAN STILL EARN
Even locked tokens can be staked to help run the network and earn rewards. Labs and the Foundation have promised to stake at most 10% of theirs and to lend the rest only to independent community validators, so they cannot control the network.
NEW TOKENS
GenLayer also creates new GEN every day, starting around 9% a year and slowly dropping to 4%. The rule is fixed, so there is no surprise printing. 90% goes to people who stake.
IN A NUTSHELL:
Half belongs to the team, investors and early builders, released slowly over 1 to 4 years. The community owns 25%, mostly available early. Staking earns you a share of the new tokens.

What does it take to turn years of research into infrastructure that could improve blockchain?
In a new interview with @Genzio at TOKEN2049, @MurielMedard , CEO and Co-founder of @get_optimum, talks about her journey from years of research at MIT to building Optimum.
She also shares an interesting perspective on how institutional players are approaching crypto differently and what excites her about the industry's future.
There's more to the conversation than that.

What if the biggest thing slowing down blockchain isn't computing power, but how quickly data moves?
@MurielMedard, MIT Professor and Co-Founder of @get_optimum, joined @DavidThaDegen at @token2049 to discuss how Optimum is tackling blockchain's data bottlenecks through decentralized infrastructure.
They dive into how faster data delivery can improve transaction speeds, reduce network congestion, and create a more consistent experience for users.
Plus, Muriel shares her perspective on the industry's growing maturity, institutional adoption, and what it takes to build technology that lasts.

Yesterday, I had the honor of hosting the @GenLayer Abuja Builders Meetup in Abuja, Nigeria, alongside @SdkSaddik of Abuja Web3 Connect, who co-hosted the event.
It was more than just a meetup. It was an opportunity for builders and contributors to connect, exchange ideas, and explore how GenLayer is expanding the possibilities at the intersection of AI and blockchain.
We discussed the future of the agentic economy and how GenLayerโs Intelligent Contracts go beyond traditional smart contracts by evaluating real-world information and handling situations where outcomes cannot be determined by code alone.
One of the highlights was welcoming new builders into the GenLayer ecosystem and introducing them to the opportunities to learn, experiment, and build with this emerging technology.
The future of the agentic economy is being shaped by people who are willing to learn, build, and explore new possibilities, and it was exciting to see that spirit in our Abuja community.
Watch the recap video and check out the pictures to see how it all went.
My GEN Airdrop registration is complete!
With registration closing on October 26 and the Season 1 snapshot just around the corner, here's a reminder for every Genfren to get informed and register.

after watching the below video, this line stuck with me:
"even when you make the call yourself, the AI you used for research may have nudged you."
my question is, the idea of putting every decision onchain on @GenLayer (who voted, for what, and why) is clear for the final step.
whatโs less clear is how that "why" works when a person still makes the call, but the options and context they saw were already filtered or ranked by an AI.
does the onchain record mainly capture the human rationale at the end, or is there also a way to surface the earlier model influence that shaped the choice?
what made me curious:
the post (and the clip) make that invisible nudge feel real, especially around hiring or research.
tracing the final vote is one thing; attributing the prior filter seems harder, and thatโs probably where a lot of the opacity actually lives.
@kstellana
๐ค Paid partnership
decision-making is moving from humans to machines, and most of the time you can't see it happen
AI picks what you see on social media and whether you get hired. even when you make the call yourself, the AI you used for research may have nudged you
we need to trace those decisions. on @GenLayer every one is onchain: who voted, for what, and why

When youโre benefiting from something, you would heavily defend it.
this same logic applies to the Nigerian government, they donโt care if the economy is bad as long as they are benefiting from it.
What happens when builders create things the protocol never anticipated?
In Genesis Episode 5, Albert Castellana explained that @GenLayer is a protocol people can build on, not just an app or company.
That got me curious.
If builders can create applications nobody originally imagined, those applications could introduce entirely new kinds of disputes. I'm curious about how GenLayer will adapt to challenges the protocol may not have anticipated while keeping dispute resolution reliable.
So here's my question for @kstellana :
How will the protocol handle disputes that emerge from entirely new use cases, especially when those cases challenge assumptions the protocol was originally designed around?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
