Reuters/Ipsos measured Trump's approval at about 40% in early November 2025 and 31% on 16 to 19 October 2026, the lowest of either of his terms. Over the same period CNN/SSRS fell from 37% to 32%, and Washington Post/ABC/Ipsos from 41% to 33%. The Silver Bulletin polling average put his net approval at minus 7.5 on 19 October 2025 and minus 22.3 on 16 October 2026. The decline reaches his own party: Reuters/Ipsos found approval among Republicans fell from 86% in January 2026 to 73% in September.
Overall approval is the honest measure of MAGA. Polls asking MAGA supporters whether they approve of Trump are misleading by construction: a voter who stops approving of Trump tends to stop calling himself MAGA, so the group's approval stays near 100% while the group itself shrinks. Approval among all adults has a fixed denominator and shows the true size of the pool from which MAGA draws. On Reuters/Ipsos figures, that pool has lost roughly a quarter of its size in a single year.
Fuel prices have risen sharply on the administration's watch. According to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics, regular gasoline averaged $4.36 a gallon in September 2026, up 37.6% from $3.17 in September 2025. Diesel reached $6.29 a gallon, an all-time high. Bureau of Labor Statistics data show overall inflation at 3.7% in September, driven mostly by gasoline. Grocery prices are 1.8% higher than a year ago and restaurant prices 3.5% higher.
The rallies tell the same story. In 2024 Trump described 20,000 people as a small rally. His 2026 midterm rallies are being held in venues of 4,000 to 7,000 seats, several of them college arenas and one a high school gymnasium. Major news organisations reported empty sections at rallies in Mobile, Alabama; Vandalia and Youngstown, Ohio; and San Antonio, Texas. The only official attendance figure found, from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office for Park City, Kansas on 19 October, was about 6,000. At Greenville, North Carolina, Trump himself told the crowd: "I thought it would be more." Reuters described turnout across the tour as uneven.
