I think one of, if not GREATEST legacy of Perl is its documentation culture. Documentation tool coming standard with the runtime, and the documentation being able to coexist with the code natively is what I want in all programming languages.

This article should have cited usenix.org/conference/nsdi18… or fastly.com/blog/building-and…. I get why it doesn't, but not citing work due to affiliation harms authors, not competitors. My green card application was rejected due to lack of industry impact. Guess how USCIS determines that?

This also happens at work! A friend of mine went up for "senior staff" promo (and succeeded), but someone on the promo committee objected b/c "that could've been done by a SWE-2", as if figuring out a simple way to do something valuable makes it less valuable.
