Triste, frustrado e desiludido.

May come in useful for a shocked patient with ongoing CPR whilst trying to do PCI.

Jim, the source document is quite sobering. Particularly when looking at global trends in health. I wonder what the US region specific charts look like. It seems we are taking care of younger and younger pts with ACS in the lab. health.org.uk/reports-and-an…

The European Society of Cardiology is deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Eugene Braunwald, one of the most influential figures in the history of cardiovascular medicine, who died on 22 April 2026, aged 96. “Professor Braunwald was the leading cardiologist of his time. His vision and innovation changed the trajectory of cardiovascular medicine. He had a rare ability to see what the field needed next, and then to build the science and rigorous evidence leading to better care. He set a standard for intellectual honesty and mentorship, giving generations of clinicians and researchers the confidence to aim higher.” Professor Thomas F. Lüscher, @ESC_President Professor Braunwald’s work helped define how cardiovascular disease is understood and treated. His legacy endures in the patients whose lives have been saved by evidence-based cardiovascular care, and in the people he inspired to pursue medicine with integrity and purpose ow.ly/EN0O50YP2EZ

Rapid Access Chest Pain clinics used to be seen within 2 weeks Most referred patients would be lucky to get an appt in 8 weeks, this patient died waiting having waited 5 months Cardiology has failed to recover from the pandemic For patients & GPs this is URGENT @wesstreeting
Another patient dead Another PFD report The coroner was clear. The Info sent to the GP practice by NHS 111 was reviewed by a non medically trained staff member who decided not to escalate to a CLINICIAN- a MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL and did not add this to the medical record 😡

In a few days at #ACC26, the SURVIV trial will be presented. For those who wish to become familiar with the study, here is its newly published protocol. What makes SURVIV unique? This study may provide clinically relevant evidence to inform the management of patients with mitral bioprosthetic valve failure. SURVIV is an investigator-initiated, prospective, multicentre, open-label, randomized controlled trial enrolling 150 patients with failed mitral bioprostheses eligible for either redo surgery or transcatheter valve-in-valve intervention. The primary endpoint is the composite of all-cause mortality or disabling stroke at 12 months. To maintain a relatively small sample size—given the challenges of randomizing this population—the trial is powered based on a large expected treatment effect. While this assumption is likely reasoned, it may prove optimistic; if confirmed, however, the findings would be highly impactful. eurointervention.pcronline.c…
