Why do people living with #diabetes delay #insulin treatment, sometimes for years? What are the myths and misconceptions that stand in the way of timely care?
In my conversation with @journoarsalan for @HealthPolicyW, I discuss the reasons behind these delays, the challenges faced by both patients and doctors, and the importance of early diagnosis, appropriate treatment and regular follow up in diabetes management.
My sincere thanks to Arsalan Bukhari and Health Policy Watch for this opportunity to share my perspectives on an important public health issue.

32 years ago I developed diabetes. Dr. Pitchumoni advised exercise, and I changed my diet, which brought my A1c to 7.0. But after meeting you, your care dropped it further to 6.3. I try to be in a strict diet for 6 days in a week.
Our latest research, published in the peer reviewed journal PLOS ONE, has been featured in @IndianExpress.
The study by researchers from the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), Chennai, and Prof @vimalkarani and colleagues from the @UniofReading, UK, found that people with a genetic risk of high cholesterol may be more likely to have higher cholesterol levels if they follow a poor quality diet.
The encouraging finding? People who followed a medium or high quality diet showed no significant differences in cholesterol levels between those with higher and lower genetic risk groups.
These findings highlight how healthy eating habits can help manage cholesterol levels, even among people with a genetic predisposition, and reinforce the potential of personalised nutrition in preventing cardiometabolic diseases.

Snoring isn’t always just a noisy night.
Frequent or loud snoring can sometimes be a sign of sleep apnoea, where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. This can affect oxygen levels, sleep quality and overall health. For people living with diabetes, poor sleep and sleep-related breathing problems may also make blood sugar management more difficult.
If snoring is frequent, don’t ignore it. Talk to your doctor, especially if you also feel unusually tired during the day.
