Intentionally inflammatory but always worth remembering that the orangemen weren't burnt out of their homes during the summer during a racially motivated pogrom

It's weird how saying "don't touch children against their will" is so offensive to so SO many people...

So many right wingers coming out to put the woman's desire for a kiss above the child's desire to be left alone. So the child should learn to accept that their body must be available for another person's gratification? Consent shd be modeled & respected from toddlerhood.
Who is the Irish State [& NGOs] to tell grandparents if, when and how they can hug their grandchildren ? Were taxpayers asked their consent if their money could be wasted in this way? Of course not. The State has stolen far too much of our tax money to waste among its ideolical friends who are intent on destroying the family, the basis of Ireland' s future. The official Woke state has declared war on the Irish nation. Four Organisations involved in "don't hug ad" 1. CUAN - a state agency. 2. Community Foundation Ireland, 3. Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, and 4. We-Consent.

It seems this is a case of our government having a kneejerk reaction to Religious Right international pressure, and we really should be past withdrawing ads about consent at the behest of the Religious Right in Ireland, for obvious reasons, right?

Consent exists in every relationship. Deeply weird to get angry over the idea that young people have boundaries.
Replying to @OCallaghanJim
While it is vital to ensure that people understand the concept of consent when it comes to sexual relationships, this video did not advance that aim and in many ways was counterproductive.

We are not demeaned by this video Isn't this the very problem? The feelings of older relatives prioritised over the discomfort of children It was like that in my childhood Nothing has changed Kids need to know their discomfort matters, & we will pay attention to it #WeConsent
The video produced by the DRCC involving grandparents does not represent the views of the Government. It was both inappropriate and demeaning to grandparents and has been removed by DRCC following my officials engagement with them.

BREAKING @bbcnewsni Jailed ex DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson is being investigated by London police about an alleged rape of a woman inside the Houses of Parliament. The former MP has been accused of raping the woman in Westminster in 2016, at the very heart of the political establishment. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c94g…

I can now confirm after speaking to officers; that despite a firearms risk assement from the PSNI. Negotiators who were sent into the crowd and the air support unit were not briefed of any firearms risk. They are asking me why they weren’t told if one existed. @BelTel
I can confirm, despite the PSNI assessment that dissidents may have had ready access to weapons on Garvaghy road, no surveillance was launched to follow potential weapons. There was no contact with security services and no counter terrorism specialist firearms teams were put in place at any point. Serious questions now being asked of the PSNI that if they believed weapons were on the road why they did not follow that belief @BelTel

This chart on intelligence is very important in context of today’s court case around Drumcree / Garvaghy Road. It’s worth noting that my sources say that PSNI intelligence was separate to the intelligence of MI5 who unlike PSNI intel- were on the Garvaghy Road, in person. That intelligence is unreleased but my source says it significantly differs from that of the PSNI @BelTel

The characterisation of the large numbers of people - from diverse backgrounds - who exercised their human rights to protest peacefully and to free expression - in relation to the Garvaghy Road - remains highly problematic. A pause for reflection may be wise.

Working class Protestants are on the same housing lists and in the same hospital queues as their Catholic neighbours, and no march down anybody’s road has ever changed that. The Orange Order was built for exactly this job.

Prohibition and opioid deprescribing are two of the most profound government-induced death campaigns of the last century. They have criminalized doctors (or deputized them as med cops) and justified racist structural oppression by police, child welfare, landlords & employers

Have you been paying attention? This phrase “they have a legal right to walk the road” is rapidly becoming the most abused sentence in loyalism. They don’t possess some timeless, unrestricted legal entitlement to parade Garvaghy Road whenever they choose. What existed on 27 September was a specific Parades Commission determination, for a particular parade, at a particular time, involving 35 people and subject to conditions. Indeed, after the specified parade period passed, the residents’ solicitor argued that the determination had expired and a fresh application was necessary. Jamie Bryson argued the opposite. In other words, even the continuing legal position was disputed. And here’s the bigger point you’re determined to avoid, Having permission for a parade does not magically erase everybody else’s rights. People on Garvaghy Road have rights to protest, political expression and peaceful assembly too. Calling them “sectarian bigots” because they exercise those rights rather spectacularly undermines your lecture about rights. And singing republican songs doesn’t somehow transfer ownership of the road to the Orange Order. This is the mentality that needs challenged: “Our rights mean you must accommodate us; your rights mean you’re preventing us getting what we want.” That’s not equality. Equality means the Orange tradition has rights and so do the people living on Garvaghy Road. After decades in which this particular route became synonymous with an extraordinarily bitter communal dispute, saying NO to an Orange parade isn’t evidence that Catholics have suddenly acquired supremacy. It’s evidence that they have a voice. Perhaps that’s the bit you’re struggling with. A neighbour who can finally tell you “no” isn’t oppressing you ffs
