In a surprising turn of events, I now have a graduate student 🤗
I want to do this right. So I’m soliciting advice from the wise & experienced 😅 - what are your best tips for being a good advisor/PI/graduate student mentor? ✨

Reflecting - since starting as an assistant professor exactly 4 years ago , my lab has published 5 research articles with me as corresponding author ( including in Science , Nature Commun etc) , a few reviews , a couple of methods, and assisted in 5 other labs in their research articles. Yet this year has been impossible to get ANY research grand. Can someone explain to me what should one accomplish to get funding these days and is it worth for me to stay in academia with this kind of “support” ?
I am thrilled to accept an invitation to give a talk at @UWCSSS (the Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences) early next year! I'm an affiliate faculty member in CSSS, which is a great interdisciplinary community.

Anyone have additional tips and strategies for reapplying for an NIH (extramural) LRP? I applied as independent but reviewers flagged me for not discussing my mentor...which you seemingly aren't supposed to in independent applications. 1/2
