East Coast Broccoli Lowers Costs and Risks From California Drought morningagclips.com/east-coas…
The Eastern Broccoli Project was made possible both by the great funding from SCRI, and the challenge to take on a big problem needing a transdisciplinary solution. I learned the jargon of seed sales, new-generation sequencing and behavioral economics from the team.
Those interested in applying for the Specialty Crop Research Initiative have until June 15. Applicants are strongly encouraged to propose a unique approach to solving problems facing the specialty crop industry using a systems approach. More details: nifa.usda.gov/grants/funding…

Delighted to present the outcomes of our SCRI-funded project on Alternaria in broccoli at UFL @ChristineSmart6 @USDA_NIFA @ugaCAESresearch
A broccoli variety adapted to eastern North America was not on the to-do list for seed companies. The Eastern Broccoli Project changed that. After a considerable amount of work and collaboration, NorthStar has been released by @BejoSeeds. news.cornell.edu/stories/202…
This research explains how fungicide-resistant alternaria blight was popping up in new places. It also provides the assay that allows seed companies to screen for the seedborne disease so that this is no longer a source of infestation. Tremendous work!
