A 1,000,000th reminder the crucial importance of basic research. Ambros and Ruvkun were looking into understanding nematode genetics and development, not looking for a drug, and ended up opening an entire new area in biology

Here's my very quick Q&A thread about the new @NANOGrav gravitational wave background result! Thanks especially to @Dr_CMingarelli and @ebpetroff for helping me understand this stuff! And congrats to @NANOGrav and to the rest of the pulsar timing array community -- amazing work!

🚨 Call your congresspeople now to ask for support to fund @NASA and @NSF, protect these agencies from severe budget cuts, and let them know how important federal funding is for the astronomical sciences in the United States. aas.org/advocacy/get-involve… #astronomy

It was a pleasure to host Minister @sretailleau, His Excellency Ambassador @mraillet, and their teams at Perimeter yesterday. Our researchers were excited to share about their work and we look forward to further discussions about possible partnerships. Merci pour votre visite!

Astronomers have detected a fast radio burst, or FRB — an intensely strong burst of radio waves of unknown astrophysical origin. "There are not many things in the universe that emit strictly periodic signals," says Daniele Michilli, a postdoc in @MITKavli bit.ly/3uK6jgp

To mark the end of Pride Month, here is a short thread to celebrate some trans scientists and their amazing contributions. These are great scientists, and great people who have risen above transphobia to succeed - that's worth celebrating.

The news coming out of the United States is horrific. My heart goes out to the millions of American women who are now set to lose their legal right to an abortion. I can’t imagine the fear and anger you are feeling right now.
