As I get older, staring at a screen for hours while reading is giving me migraines. So I bought a Kindle paperwhite that was on sale. I like it, but I have carpal tunnel too and it’s just big enough to aggravate that. Do pop sockets help with gripping? I’ve never had one before🤷🏾‍♀️

Trust me. Not only will your writing become better, but your manuscript will appeal to more people. We need to make a push to stop writing minorities out of literature. Be inclusive. Reach out to people for help. Let’s do better as creators. 7/7

We live in a diverse world. If you’re taking the time to create a fantasy world, guess what… yup, diversity applies to fantasy worlds too. Whether it’s aliens or werewolves. 6/7

And once you write that diverse character, all you gotta do is ask your friend from that background to read it. Because trust me, we are happy to read something and make sure it isn’t a trope. 5/7

The argument that it’s too difficult or time consuming to include diversity in your story is bullshit. Stop being lazy. If you already wrote an 80k+ manuscript, then I’m assuming you developed some main characters and side characters. 4/7

And let’s be clear, gay men can talk about more than fashion. They can be lawyers, doctors etc. Black people can be nerdy, shy and have never tried drugs. Disabled people have sex too. There is so much more, but you get the idea. 3/7

So if you can spend 18 paragraphs throughout your manuscript describing the hot blonde and her ripped to perfection counterpart, you can drop a line about a minority group. It really ain’t that difficult. 2/7

We need to have a frank talk about #diversity in #writing. Dear world, #BIPOC, #disabled, and #LGBTQIA+ people EXIST. We here and we ain’t goin’ no where. Welcome to my threaded rant. 1/7
