Somehow, Lair of the Leviathan has reached 18,000 wishlists. I don't know what the usual thing is to write for these kind of posts so I thought I'd just post a bit about how I started and hope it can encourage anyone else thinking about starting their own game. Five years ago I had volunteered to be a stay at home dad for our children. It was a really hard transition and at the time I had felt a bit lost and feeling the need to 'work' on something. I had no background in art or programming but I thought at least I would give it a go purely out of the need to make the game that I myself wanted to play. The kind of old school open world western style of RPG that is a bit of an endangered species nowadays. So I started studying every day, pixelart and programming. I would wake up at 3am, study, look after the kids and do a bit more whenever I had a chance during the day. It was a rough start, especially with pixelart. I wanted to give up more times than I remember but slowly I started to pick stuff up. My pixelart started resembling the things I was trying to draw rather than just blocky blobs and I could make things do what I wanted in code even if it did take a long time. I started from nothing, having no idea what I was doing (I still feel I don't!) to having an upcoming game people are interested in. If you, whoever you are that may be reading this, truly believe and want something enough, try and don't stop trying until you get there. I truly believe anyone can and all the awesome tools that we have these days make it easy enough for anyone to at least try. If someone like me can do it, I promise you that you can too.
