Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.

IU Health has taken Indiana’s first mobile lung screening unit across the state, bringing lifesaving early detection to Hoosiers outside the walls of the hospital and into many rural communities. The work is part of our nonprofit commitment to improve access to care and address Indiana’s most pressing health challenges.
This summer, 1,000 Hoosiers have been screened.
“This milestone is really a reflection of the communities we serve,” said Dr. Nasser Hanna, IU Health’s chief of cancer screenings. “By bringing screenings closer to home, we’re helping more Hoosiers take an important step toward protecting their health.”
The milestone comes as Indiana continues to face one of the nation’s highest burdens of tobacco use and lung cancer. Approximately 110,000 Hoosiers are eligible for annual lung cancer screening, yet fewer than 20 percent receive the recommended test. For many individuals, barriers such as travel distance, transportation challenges and work can make accessing preventive care difficult.
A three-minute scan can help detect cancer before it is too late for curative treatment.

My mother, Joanne, loved the Western genre. She read every Zane Grey novel he ever wrote. I know because I drew stick-figure cartoons in the margins of her massive paperback collection.
Westerns, by nature, are riddled with clichés – the steely-eyed, unshaven hero protecting innocent pioneers from brutal, unforgiving savages.
With Reconcile, I tried to sidestep many of the cliché elements we've read or seen in Westerns for a generation. Reality isn't tidy or reliable. Reality has unpleasant circumstances that don't always resolve themselves like they do in the movies. In the heat of battle, the "good guys" and "bad guys" aren't so easily defined.
In the sprawling history of the American West, I'd like to think a different kind of story was possible, and I hope you enjoy it.
