I’m absurdly “pro data centre” and I wonder how much social capital I’ll lose by talking about it about it more it didn’t even strike me as a political position, just an obvious step on humanity’s path of progress let’s fix the dirty bits and carry on

there’s a post I keep hesitating to write, but have mentioned offhand in pubs, podcasts, probably some tweets as well. about very senior engineers who have painted themselves into a corner by being absolutist anti-ai, and have rationalised it deeply, and made/making themselves completely unemployable. it’s super tragic to see. we need to give them some kind of offramp, but probably won’t because what exactly is the benefit to the olive branch presenting person? and yeah I’ll say it, being on bluesky is corrupting for this reason. you’ll have the constant applause from others who are in the same position, and feel completely validated in your decision, and fade into the nothingness. it’s like these people forgot what being a technologist really means, what the job is, how to be practical and adjust to a changing world. corrupted by pithy ideology that doesn’t survive contact with reality. ps - don’t use this as an excuse to be cruel to them, I see the thigh slapping self congratulatory types as well who enjoy seeing this train wreck play out. (replies limited for this one, I only discuss this with my friends in person sorry.)

If you live somewhere where rich people exist, it means you live somewhere where it’s possible to be successful. More rich people = easier to be successful. This is good, actually.

This is correct. Extraordinary that we have this game changing moment unfolding in front of us and most elite discourse is still fake news about AI water usage or three-year-old angst about hallucinations.

What if I told you that for decades, this was largely a U.S. policy -- that Europe largerly disarmed, weakened its defense industries, and handed its security over to the United States, making itself dependent? What if I told you that for decades, this arrangement suited both sides just fine? America secured its monopoly status as the world's military hegemon and the undisputed leader of the West, gained the ability to project its power across the globe, and had a massive market for its defense industry free from European competition -- all while extending its protection over its vassals-allies in return. And Europe was perfectly happy to relax under that American umbrella and spend its money on social programs and comfortable life. And then Donald Trump, at the helm of a superpower, decided that everyone owed him. That he wants a weak, dependent Europe and a vast market for American military exports -- but has no intention of honoring the part of the old bargain that involved actually protecting that same Europe. Doesn't anyone else find it hilarious that the Trump admin first screams at the top of its lungs demanding that Europe defend itself and become independent -- and then turns around and expresses displeasure that European countries are switching to their own weapons instead of signing contracts with the American defense industry?

US think tank: The UK government has accepted an ambitious and necessary vision for British defense, promised to deliver it at what it called a “wartime pace,” and then spent the better part of two years producing nothing of substance. There are no significant program commitments, no major modernization announcements, and no serious investment decisions.  fpri.org/article/2026/03/the…

“Laws to protect drivers from automation”. In the not too distant future that is akin to killing quite a big number of your constituents.
I have called for an AI Jobs New Deal. ✅ Future Workforce Admin hires young grads & displaced workers in care jobs, government service, national security etc. ✅ Laws to protect drivers from automation ✅ Revoke immunity for algorithmic content ✅ Emphasize humanities in school.

Come on, we've got WAY BETTER spies than China 🕵
Ingraham: "They're not the French. They're the Chinese. They spy on us. They steal our intellectual property..." President Trump: "What you think the French are better?" Ingraham: "Yeah." Trump: "I'm not so sure. We've had a lot of problems with the French."

Taking from my pensions savings to deliver inflation busting increases to state pension spending today. The cruel irony here is there’s no way I’m getting state pension. The system will have long since collapsed by the time I retire. Good to know more will be taken from me to facilitate all this.
🚨 NEW: Rachel Reeves will use the Budget to impose a £2k-a-year limit on how much salary can go into a pension before paying National Insurance The move will raise £2bn and hit salary sacrifice schemes [@thetimes]

The WASPI women have suffered no injustice and there is hence no case for “compensation”. Any money diverted to them would be simply a redistribution from taxpayers to a sectional interest that ranks extremely low among those that merit it.
Good to rejoin the WASPI women in their ongoing campaign for justice and compensation. ⁦@WASPI_Campaign⁩

In the latest beta of @vitest_dev v4, you can now use any standard schema library for your assertions I worked on a PR to integrate schema matching directly using `expect.schemaMatching(schema)` It's based on the standard schema spec, that means it works with Zod, Valibot, ArkType, ....
What if we can turn `expect(url).toMatch(/^(?!\\.)(?!.*\\.\\.)([A-Za-z0-9_'+\\-\\.]*)[A-Za-z0-9_+-]@([A-Za-z0-9][A-Za-z0-9\\-]*\\.)+[A-Za-z]{2,}$/)` into `expect(url).toMatchSchema(z.url())`? I created a custom matcher for @vitest_dev to validate data against any schema
