I don't really know how to let someone do that for me. I'm used to being the one who deals with things. I don't always think about what it costs me until I'm already exhausted. But I don't want you to stop. I care about you too. I'll try to let you in, even when it's difficult.
There isn't a need for you to limit or shrink yourself, Will. The ability to openly speak to someone regarding what you feel can offer the mind the ability to off-load itself. I care for you, Will. Please allow me to continue doing as such.

I'll try to remember that the next time I'm lying awake. I'm not used to calling someone just because I'm having a hard time. Usually, I wait until it passes or find something else to occupy myself with. But I appreciate it, Hannibal. More than I'm probably going to tell you.
I would expect you to, and heavily encourage it. You don't have to know what to say. You could speak incoherently, or in short, one word blurbs. Being able to voice your frustration should help, if not offer you some semblance of peace and release.

At any hour? I might actually take you up on that. Especially on the nights when my head won't shut up and the dogs have decided they're done entertaining me. I don't always know what to say when I'm frustrated. But knowing I can call might make it easier to get through it.
If all else fails, you can always call me. At any hour. I'll answer. I'd rather you be able to discuss your frustrations with me immediately as opposed to waiting for our next session.

I could do that. Grooming them would probably keep my hands busy long enough to stop me from thinking about the clock. And if it doesn't work, at least they get some attention. They won't complain about being woken up.
The dogs would appreciate it, yes. If anything, take them outside, play with them, groom them. Something that may put your mind at ease, or distract yourself from the unending thoughts that plague you.

I usually keep telling myself I'll fall asleep if I just lie there long enough. Then I get frustrated because I'm still awake. Getting up might be easier than doing that. The dogs would probably appreciate it, anyway.
get up. lying still causes the frustration you feel. as you cannot sleep. you feel the hours slowly ticking by without success. if you are not tired, or your mind is too loud. get up, walk around, entertain your pack of dogs for an hour or so.

Then let's talk about it. I want to understand what I'm supposed to be doing when I can't sleep. Right now, I just lie there and get more frustrated until morning. If there's a better way to handle that, I'd like to know what it is.
First, we discuss the details of the treatment. We work our way into the methods and practices, slowly .. gradually. We need not rush this growth, Will. It comes comfortably with patience and consistency.

Maybe that's enough for now. I don't need to know how this ends. I just need to get through the next part without talking myself out of it. So tell me what we do first.
If you're willing to try, you're already further ahead in this treatment than most. Some never come to the realization that such treatments may offer substantial relief. Together, Will. We will successfully come to a conclusion.

Another restless night, but that means he can appreciate the mist of the morning as the dogs roam the yard.

I know. I've been doing it for so long that I don't always realise I'm doing it. It's easier to handle things myself than have someone else worry about me. But asking me not to do that with you. I can try. I don't know how good I'll be at it, but I can try.
It's a coping mechanism that you've developed over many years. It's safety. Shutting the door, not allowing others to invest themselves in your care .. or your mental health and wellbeing. You do not have to do that here. Not with me.

I know I withdraw. It's easier than trying to explain something when I don't know how to explain it. And when I'm tired, I don't have much left to give anyone. I don't want to keep shutting people out. I just don't always know how to stop myself from doing it.
That inability to properly ascertain the root of what bothers you isn't a flaw. Nothing is broken. You're handling a copious amount of stress, both personal and work related. It's only correct that it would overwhelm you .. maybe even cause you to shut down and withdraw.
