Why I’m very bullish on .xmr 🧵👇
My conviction starts with a simple idea: private money should be easy to use.
Monero gives us financial privacy by default. OpenAlias makes payments easier by letting a compatible wallet translate a readable domain name into a Monero address.
Bring those together with a potential .xmr DNS extension, and the opportunity becomes much bigger than websites for Monero projects.
If .xmr completes the ICANN process and enters the DNS root, owners could configure OpenAlias records on their domains. Someone could then enter a name like alice.xmr into an OpenAlias-compatible wallet, resolve the address, and send XMR.
The payment lookup could use ordinary DNS infrastructure, without needing Polygon smart contracts or Unstoppable’s resolution API.
That matters.
A .xmr domain could become a personal payment identity: something you put in your bio, share with customers, use for freelance work, or publish for donations.
You wouldn’t need to launch a startup or build an entire website to give the name a purpose. Simply using it to receive payments could make it useful.
OpenAlias already works with other DNS extensions. What excites me about .xmr is the clear connection to Monero: a name that immediately tells people which monetary ecosystem you belong to.
That’s why I own openalias.xmr. It captures a use case I believe deserves much more attention.
My bigger conviction is in Monero itself.
For everyday digital cash, I consider Monero better suited than Bitcoin because financial privacy is built into the system. Bitcoin’s base-layer transactions are public. I believe ordinary people will increasingly value the ability to transact without publishing their financial activity.
My bold long-term prediction? Monero will become more popular for everyday payments and eventually flip Bitcoin in market value.
That is my conviction, not a guaranteed outcome. It depends on adoption, usability, access, and people choosing privacy.
The same applies to .xmr: DNS approval is still conditional, and useful payment identities require proper configuration and compatible wallets.
But the possibility is powerful:
Private digital cash.
Readable payment names.
An identity people can remember.
That’s the future I’m bullish on. 🔐
