To start, the measure of risk in finance is volatility.
The risk tactics will vary based on how we define volatility. Some of them identify volatility as the standard deviation of annualized returns, and the other ones rely on the range or chart pattern size and technical targets. Still, technical traders use ATR (Average True Range).
How does ATR work? Well, it gauges market volatility by calculating the mean true price range over a set number of periods, commonly 14. A higher ATR signals greater volatility, aiding in setting stop-loss orders and spotting potential breakouts or breakdowns. It's a critical tool for managing risk and optimizing position size if you use technical analysis for your trading.
Without risk control, you’ll sooner or later fall into financial ruin. That’s guaranteed. Now, some of it can sound exotic, I know. Yet, you should somehow find a way to get all the resources you need to get back on your feet and cut big losses, right?
