Down the Rabbit Hole conundrum of Larsen delivering less vs its order build up Employment - India produces over 1.5m engineers a year. Only 300-350K find employment in related fields. The rest of them slip into oblivion or disguised employment in completely unrelated fields Yet LT has a deficit of over 14000 engineers. It suffers a serious shortage of skilled Labour. The bulk of Indian engineers have moved towards software IT chasing career trends which may have even peaked.. Cruel irony is a business will replace the highst head count with AI systems leading to further bulk unemploymnt in the field that generated the highest number of engineers. Vicious cycle. But why is there such a huge mismatch in the engineerng jobs available with the actual engineers available One reason of course is Trend analysis - the average engineering aspirant will analyse current trends and not decadal emerging trends with the fear that his expertise may either be too early or irrelevant. He chooses the safer option of potential redundancy over irrelevance. He derives comfort of risk of failure when there is the safety in numbers over actually failing alone in a miscalculated risk of career trend prediction. - A very large section of aspirants for even related fields of'Hard Hat Engineering' are actually not employable due to their curricula remainng decades behind real-world standardsโ€” we emphase rote theory over practical design codes. I guess... Rote is always easier to teach, cheaper and less creativity needed. But the flipside is the engineering grads are not trained practically for real world situations that need out of the box thinking. - exposure to EPC specialising - India is just at the inflection bottom of a massive EPC cycle. This is a Infra focussed government. However this trend was not fed in to churn specialized graduates. An EPC contract for an oil refinery, tunneling or nuclear project cannot deploy a generalist engineering graduate. L&T has to run their own academies just to bring these graduates to a base operational standard and ability. - Employee generational mindset - an enginers mind has been drilled over years that they will get a cushy ac desk job with an engineering degree. Very few are actually mentally prepared for a Hard Hat site based relocation. This leads to the typical software vocational choice over a civil or a mechanical engineerng job India has to bridge this huge anomaly of 1.1m surplus engineerng grads vs a deficit of 14k engineers in LT and probably over 150K across the Indian corporate requirement. With the Indian governments focus on Infra growth to spur GDP This deficit can balloon to 400K by 2030. Ironically, in a nation that suffers high unemployment we will actually have an unserviceable employment opportunity of over 350K engineers by 2030. Restructure this anomaly from the bud. -Make our future requirements clear. An astute employment 10 year trend analysis needs to be made very public..Even in the remotest parts of the country where the brightest minds may exist. - Bridge the starting pay disparities between a software desk job and an epc job. Larsen spends crores on making engineering grads employable. If they received fully qualified practical on site employable engineers who could hit the ground running. They would save the cost of intense remediation and could pay the mechanical and civil engineers better from day one. - education needs to be a dual combination of on job trading and book knowledge. We need to stringently adopt the German methods of dual training. - Structure the engineering college requirements as per future demand and not current - career counseling for entire families of these aspiring engineers on the benefits of civil and mechanical engineering in the times to come. Its a very long road to a complete rehaul and remediation but it's needs to start now if we would have to bridge the massive unemployment anomaly in the decade to come

You bet. support the local investor and not just FPI. You can't differentiate btw a mutual fund and FPI and keep the former at a tax disadvantage penalising Indians for being Indians @nsitharaman @FinMinIndia
I honestly donโ€™t know if the government will undertake any tax reforms for the capital markets. If they do so at all, the changes should benefit local investors as well, not only foreign investors. We are not lesser mortals. Indian retail investors take risks even with small amounts of capital. In a capital starved nation, risk capital should be rewarded regardless of whether it comes from foreign or local sources.

Some flashbacks from my FPI Buyside days. Circa 2011 There was this stock HCL Info that was seeing consistent selling by a cartel. It had fallen 30% in 6 weeks. The cartel was still holding over 20mln shares. Price had fallen from 430 to 300. Bear sell calls across the street. MNC broker research reports aligned to the mkt positioning of the stock moreso in fear of the large seller than actual fundamentals. AMCs often check for the tail end of the sellers supply and buy that size off and more post seller exhaustion. We did just that. We picked up the whole size of 20mln shares @ 300. INR 600cr blocks were not too common in 2012. We changed the entire sentiment of the stock. Every sell report was decimated overnight. Conviction Sell calls were watered down to long term hold. 'Reduce' was scaled up to an 'event update Buy' call. It was history in the making for hcl info. Even the Co thanked us for being a natural axe to the massive Sell size. Nonetheless - the stock moved back to 450 in 2 weeks and it doubled in a year. Bottomline - more often than not brokerage reports reflect underlying sentiment and positioning and not True fundamentals. one big capitulation like MTF selling last week can completely change the headlines for you #jioiporefunds

After 42 years the U turn at peddar road Jaslok Hospital junction has finally been restored saving commuters over 15 - 40mins and an extra 2km of driving time. As they had to drive all the way down to the Kemps corner flyover through huge traffic jams and signals just to get to the opp side of the road. Traffic congestion has reduced drastically due to the coastal road Thank you @MTPHereToHelp for the consideration to is residents

MTF shares being busted (maal fodna) is the equivalent of a capitulation. You may have non MTF stocks that were doing well but crashing hard now. That is the result of a contagion that begins with MTF shares sell off. Investors with large MTF positions in one stock 'A' then may have to sell off another non MTF stock 'B' to cover MTM losses. If that stock 'B' was trending price on genuine operational performance this this is the inflection point of stock price breaking off and deviating drastically from the fundamentals. #statingtheobvious but a sane forgotten truth is helpful in insane times

Was Sitting with the promo of a mfg listed Co thats recently seen a 25% correction. He wasn't particularly stressed as he was in March 26 and Q1. Primarily as supply continuity is more important over rising prices of RM. Q1 was a break in supply and industrial rationing of gas and energy. He still managed to pull out a great result. Q2 and Q3 is supply continuity but a pass on of prices to the his clients. It is tougher on margins but we ll pull through well. He is 10% of the input cost of his customers product and has raised his prices by 30% so far. Hence we re seeing the increased revenue figured but lower margins. His pricing will not change post war gas price reversion. Then the margin play begins ๐Ÿคž Fair to say - his and other stocks may correct 40-50% but Business will go on and strive for superlative performance irrespective of stock prices. Such is the nature of the beast and the opportunities that come our way

Abso correct, Unfortunately they don't realise the large % of investors direct and indirect they are hitting. It's not about FPIs, it's about the entire investing class which could be 15% of the population
Replying to @equitycaller
I don't think they fully realize what % of the populace is now directly & indirectly invested in the market. Attitude is what one would expect from a decade back when markets were the game of a tiny few %. To say nothing of the social media/perception negativity this brings.

3 very disturbing and thought provoking interactions and interviews that make you scratch your head on the financial literacy of the FM 1) In a conference where an anguished broker raised a very pertinent rhetorical question to @nsitharaman @nsitharamanoffc. STT STCG LTCG GST IT and CESS. These are the taxes charged by the @FinMinIndia on entering a trade, irrespective of the quality of investor. So is the the Govt a more than equal sleeping partner where broker takes all the risk and capital and the Govt just reaps the benefits?. 2) We've grown up in the markets listening to the controlled level headed and very experienced wisdom of veterans like #vallabhbhashali. In 28 years I've never seen him so perturbed and in disbelief to the stup!d!ty and smugness of the finance ministry in handling the mkts. This is a man whos built empires from scratch who's seen it all. He has only built businesses and never destroyed and can't fathom why a Govt would do it. 3) #AjayBagga spoke from the heart rather.. from the stomach and that voice is the True depiction of the pain that we investors are going through. The most common emotion here is disbelief. Disbelief that a Govt would be so short sighted and smug to would play whack a mole with any business that dares raise its head with a profit and yet simultaneously glorify GDP growth and progress. This is the exact reason why the goalpost is constantly shifting from 2025 to 2036 to 2047. Investors are not speculators. They are assets to the nation that spur GDP and growth through - *pain staking extensive and expensive research *investments in fledgling businesses and *patient capital. Dont treat them as sinners and gamblers. If you understand finance and basic financial common sense you would support this with clearing obstacles and letting them March forward. Bottomline - a sleeping partner always creates trouble when they suddenly get active without really knowing the business #whackamole

The US appreciates jio as the most innovative Co as early as 2019. But we still don't appreciate anything Indian
if ull remember my tweet on meeting a Google team that works closely with jio in developing software and they mentioned that they've yet to see a state of the art cutting edge technology like jios

2020 tweet Still holds True.
#Ril debt was $50b vs #Amzn 75b. Ril is bad Ril reduces debt to 50%-why is ril selling stake?.. Somethings must be wrong AMZN PE is 140, when I added it, it was 250 and price was 945. Now it's ~3000 RIL pe 26 but RIL will be considered overvalued cuz... Its Desi???

There u go #stt is a constant. Let that stay. Remove LTCG reduce stcg Same same but different ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘‡ xitter.cf/CNBCTV18News/status/21โ€ฆ
For the Govt - The one constant tax is STT. LTCG and STCG variable tax cd be next to nothing in bad years of stk mkts. Every profit will be neutralised with a loss. Hence leave the stt and remove the ltcg, marginalise the stcg. You will reap stt and short term taxes

Forget the fundamentals and the constant comparison with Bharti ev/ebitda, pe etc etc. That I'm seeing with a lot of the financial guru recc on the ipo There is such a thing as mkt positioning. Focus on that I don't thinks mkts realise the potential magnitude of delta moves a miniscule 2.93% of equity float can give you. Anyone remember Dmart when it listed. Why did it flyyy Fantastically engineered plan of listing. Rather than give the existing shareholders free shares, like it happ with jio financial completely destroying the supply to demand ratio. Lets just create the demand. Of course the parent benefits huge #jio #JioIPO #ril
