During consultant ward rounds today, consultant asked a question that me and my colleagues couldn’t answer.
Somehow, I was waiting for some sort of “Why don’t you know this?” Or “is this how you’re calling yourself a doctor?”
Instead, he just said; “Open your phone and check na. You’re not writing exams”
I love this consultant and it feels so good not being a student at this time 😅
I sometimes do this thing when I’m not shy.
I walk up to a person or a group of people, strike up a conversation, and somehow we end up discussing the most random, deeply personal things. I listen to some insane lore and I’m genuinely interested.
I call them single-serving friends.
The existence of people in your life can change the trajectory of a lot of things. So sometimes, I just enjoy people’s existence in the little space within which our paths cross.
No expectations of friendship, no pressure to keep in touch. Just two or more people sharing a little bit of their existence before going their separate ways.
I think there’s something beautiful about that.
Single-serving friends. 🙂
So I know I largely publicised the first 30km run I did in October 2024. The second one, not so much.
I woke up around 2am that Sunday because I had a dream where we were having a conversation. She was laughing as I struggled to do a terrible impression of a mutual friend of ours. (It is my duty to gossip with my babe when I have one.)
I woke up feeling a bit sad because I thought I was over her, and here she was, showing up in my dreams and making me feel the same way I felt the day we met.
It was awful, mahn. Very awful.
She was a wonderful person (I guess she still is), and that breakup was tough. To summarise it.
As always, I felt the need to feel something, so I went on a run with one goal:
Run until the pain in your legs hurts more than the day you lost her.
And so I set out.
I was thinking a good 15-21km would do the trick. It always did. This wasn’t even the first time I was doing this. I shouldn’t be allowed to love people.
Whilst on the run, I saw people going to church.
One particular girl saw me when she was entering St. Albert around 6am. She saw me again when she came out around 8am. Then, she saw me one last time around 9:20am when she was coming out of Hall 1.
I was still running.
The shock on her face is still engraved in my memory.
Well, sorry for digressing.
I remember hitting 19km and passing through the main gate (UNIBEN), and then I saw her.
The very person I was running to forget.
And by all the gods, she was beautiful.
I did the one thing I usually never did on my runs back then. I stopped to talk to her.
I was sweaty and smelly, but we spoke for about a minute.
She smiled at me and said she was really happy to see me.
I think I felt every possible emotion all at once when she said that, but yeah.
The urge to push.
And somehow, I got to 30km again.
When I finally hit 30km, my legs gave out. I fell to the ground and had a very good cry.
I don’t really know if the urge to cry came from the pain or something else, but emm, yeah.
My mind had to do its thing.
Sometimes, I guess God created tears to express what the mouth can’t. Maybe that’s why babies cry. When words fail, tears can continue.
When I got home, I sat with my feelings and had a very long conversation with myself. And somehow, just somehow, I was able to get over her.
This was about 14 months after our breakup o.
How I got over her is a rant for another day.
But yeah.
I don’t know what to title this, but emm, let me give it a weird anime title:
That Time I Ran 30km to Forget About My Ex and Ended Up Seeing Her During the Run.
Hehehehe. 😅
If you see me doing plenty hard things for no reason, leave me alone. That’s my therapy.
I don’t do drugs, party or indulge in other vices.
I do hard things. 🙂
Be consumed by your ambition. There is no deeper betrayal than abandoning your own becoming.
Be haunted by your own potential until you have no choice but to see. It through 🙂
I will never give an allied health worker discount again in the name of anything. Jesus Christ is Lord!
An optometrist I work with billing 65k for glasses. Got the same lens and frame for less than 20
And I treat this guy’s kids for free.
Omo from henceforth, I’d be paid my worth in full!
You are my ally in health alone. In finances you’d pay full and so would I! 🙂
Nothing about your current situation is a mystery.
You have the body of your last 1000 meals.
The bank account of your last 1000 decisions.
The mindset of your last 1000 conversations.
Your life is the receipt.
Take ownership.
Telling me that your sister, who is a nurse in the UK, wants me to add some drugs to my prescription, remove some others and change my patient's medications to whatever she tells you, without any clinical rationale whatsoever.
I mean, I'm all for respectful academic discourse. I'm always open to listening to other people's opinions and learning new things. But dictating that I MUST do as you say?
I refused to speak to the sister or modify my prescription, and she asked them to leave the hospital. They eventually discharged themselves.
We sha readmitted the patient two weeks later, in a much poorer condition.
In a parallel universe, with the same financial resources you currently have, but as the opposite gender, do you think you could make that version of yourself fall in love with you?
To a very large extent, most of your problems as a man can be fixed by getting into endurance sports.
Having issues concentrating on your goals in life?
Get into endurance sports.
The average income of a household where a parent is doing an Ironman is 247 thousand dollars per year.
Having issues sexually?
Get into endurance sports!
Depressed?
GET INTO ENDURANCE SPORTS.
There’s something about voluntarily pushing yourself beyond what you previously thought were your limits that teaches you how to persevere in virtually every other aspect of life.
You learn discipline. You learn patience. You learn to sit with discomfort. You learn that being uncomfortable doesn’t necessarily mean you should stop. And perhaps most importantly, you learn that you’re capable of much more than you initially thought.
Before I fell in love with Emergency Medicine, I had plans to conduct extensive research into the role of endurance sports in improving outcomes among patients with depression. I genuinely hoped to make endurance sports one of the adjunctive interventions psychiatrists would consider prescribing to patients with depression.
Get into endurance sports.
It will change your life.
I promise you with mine.
It will change everything about you.
I’ve not been able to run since Monday cause I’ve had issues sleeping more than 2 hours everyday
So emm, this is me informing all of you and my godamned body that it’s gonna run 8km tomorrow
If it doesn’t sleep. It’ll faint on the road I really do not give af at this point
Death or greatness. Both are acceptable outcomes
This El Nino thing is not a joke o
I went out by 5am to run today
My 5am runs are always nice because it's cold
It's always cold.
Today on the other hand was hot
It was 5am and the weather was hot
I've been running 3 years. 5am runs have never ever been hot
I'm worried
Once sent a pitch to 302 companies
213 rejections
87 snubs and 1 favorable reply that didn't go well at the end of the day
6 of them that rejected tried to build on the pitch themselves and failed.
One day when I'm successful, I'd do a story time and it will be interesting.
You don't need to be intelligent, you just gotta be obsessed with being consistent. Improvement is it's consequence 🙂
This year, I practically forgot the birthdays of all my friends, and there’s a story behind it.
So, there’s this girl I met four years ago. Her name is Praise. Praise has really good taste in music (maybe not conventionally), but she introduced me to Rainbow Kitten Surprise and some other bands that broadened my music taste.
We grew close, and by all the gods, I genuinely enjoyed my friendship with her.
I forgot her birthday once, and she was rather devastated. (It was path pharm period. I was experiencing Jesus.)
After that, I sent a text to everyone I was remotely close to and added their birthdays to my Google Calendar so I’d never forget again. (She actually called me crying. She was just the softest, sweetest person.)
Late last year, I texted her on her birthday to wish her well, only to realise my message had one tick. I tried calling, but the calls kept bouncing.
Then I used one of my other numbers to send her a WhatsApp text, and it went through. That was when it dawned on me that this girl had blocked me.
No priors or nothing. We spoke for almost two years after I forgot her birthday, so this wasn’t causal.
When I finally reached her, I wished her a happy birthday and asked why she had blocked me.
She casually said, “Well, Tari, I was kind of in love with you, and you didn’t want to see it. I know you knew how I felt, and you kept pushing me away.”
In my defence, I was going through one very strong breakup when she and I got really close, and I’m not a rebound type of guy.
She went on to explain that she’d met someone, they’d fallen for each other, and they were now dating. She didn’t want to remain in communication with anyone she had unresolved feelings for, so she was cutting me off.
I read those words and didn’t really know how to feel.
On one hand, I was happy for her. Proud of her, even. I don’t know, it felt mature, and I respected that.
On the other hand, it meant losing communication with someone who resonated with my weirdness in a really cool way. Someone who had introduced me to music I might never have found on my own. Someone whose friendship I genuinely enjoyed.
And just like that, I had to accept that someone I wanted in my life no longer wanted me in hers, at least not in the same way.
I respected her wishes, deleted her number from my contacts, and then some. In the process of deleting her birthday from my calendar, I somehow managed to delete all my birthday reminders from Google.
About 36 of them.
So, over the next year, I’ll be doing a lot of “I’m sorry for forgetting your birthday” texts.
All because I tried to delete one person’s birthday and accidentally deleted the birthdays of practically everyone I know.
Hehe.
E be like that sometimes. And then some 🙂
I love how there's a part of the body we call "The danger triangle"
And another part we call
"The triangle of safety" It's really cool
Whenever I made a post specifically for someone to see, I felt like Gatsby throwing parties, hoping the woman he loved would randomly show up.
We talk about falling in love as though it happens to us. As though one day, somebody walks into a room, the chemistry is right, and suddenly we're helpless.
But there's something equally beautiful about the moment you realise you like somebody, and then you decide to be curious about them.
You want to know how their mind works. What they think about when they're alone. What made them the person sitting across from you. What they were like at ten years old. What scares them. What makes them laugh when they're trying not to.
And you keep asking questions because their answers make you want to ask more.
You tell them something about yourself. They tell you something about themselves. You find a little connection neither of you expected. You disagree about something and discover that you like the way they think, even when they don't think like you.
And somewhere in the middle of all that talking, the person who was a stranger a few hours ago becomes someone whose thoughts you want to hear tomorrow.
Nobody announces that love has begun.
You just notice that you're no longer looking for a reason to continue the conversation. You already have a thousand.
I just ran a promotion for FiniTasks on FiniTasks itself.
We paid our workers to post about FiniTasks on their WhatsApp statuses.
In the last 12 hours alone, we’ve had over 1,000 new sign-ups.
Let that sink in.
We now have over 19,000 workers on the platform.
Imagine paying 5,000 people to put your business in front of their WhatsApp contacts for 24 hours.
5,000 people. 5,000 personal networks. One coordinated campaign.
The traffic. The visibility. The potential customers.
And these aren’t random ads competing for attention on someone’s timeline. These are posts appearing on people’s statuses, shared by people their contacts actually know.
I’m beginning to think we’ve stumbled on something huge here.
Imagine what this could do for other businesses.
You really can’t buy that kind of distribution easily.
And we’re just getting started. 👀
Open a restaurant business
