One of the greats – the Boeing 707 – made history today in 1959, when it flew American Airlines first transcontinental jet passenger route in a record-breaking 4-hour flight from Los Angeles to New York. One of the passengers was 89-year-old Gilbert Wright who made his first trip west from Illinois to California by train in 1883 (which took seven days and seven nights!). Sometimes, things seem long ago, but our connections to the past are often quite close.
