Transportation cost is housing cost. Transportation cost is housing cost. Transportation cost is housing cost. Transportation cost is housing cost. Transportation cost is housing cost. Transportation cost is housing cost.
Grateful to be invited to share all about Oregon’s housing and land use successes at the New Jersey Planning and Redevelopment Conference on Thursday, June 6!
Along with folks from around the country, we will talk about the lessons we’ve learned in removing planning, regulatory, and legal barriers to unlock increased housing production, affordability, and choice.
Really looking forward to comparing notes with these experts!
If that sounds interesting to you, you can register to attend (either virtually or in-person) on the conference website: site.pheedloop.com/event/njp… @NewJerseyFuture @NJ_Planning #NJPRC24
See you there?
So incredibly honored to be able to celebrate a historic day for housing, the State of Oregon, and Department of Land Conservation and Development watching Governor Kotek sign SB 1537, SB 1564, SB 1530, and HB 4134 in the shadows of the nearly-complete Tistilal Village yesterday
HAPO will facilitate and support production by assisting local govts and builders in applying state housing laws. The Office will also coordinate state agencies involved in housing development to overcome housing barriers.

An insightful look into how state housing policy is effective - and how it sometimes isn't - in quickly moving the needle on housing production. Happy that Oregon could lend our experiences to this review!
The past several years have seen unprecedented legislative action on statewide housing policy—from “missing middle” in OR to ADUs in ME. But what happens *after* the legislative victory? New from me, @j_gill1, Semida Munteanu & Sydney Zelinka @landpolicy: brookings.edu/articles/passi…
There is no quick fix to Oregon's housing crisis - it was decades in the making and will take time to reverse. Thankfully, state & local governments are already making progress by charting a previously unmapped policy landscape to house our communities. opb.org/article/2023/07/26/o…

Very proud to have led this effort in the Oregon House with Vice-Chair @JeffHelfrichOR. Today we made a down payment on the extensive housing and homelessness work that will be done this session. Thank you @GovTinaKotek, @DanRayfield and Pres Wagner for your leadership!
Happening now: Governor Kotek is opening the inaugural Housing Production Advisory Committee meeting. This group will spend the next 10 months identifying and reviewing state regulations, policies, and practices that are barriers to housing production, affordability, and choice.

WA's middle housing bill, HB 1110, passes the House, on a vote of 75 - 21!
One big step closer to legalizing more homes of all shapes and sizes in communities all across Washington.
Thank you @jessdbateman, you are an abundant housing hero!!!
Thank you for summarizing HB 2889 into plain language better than we ever could
WA's latest version of OR's HB2001 requiring middle housing across the state is up! Exciting to see new provisions broadening applicability and establishing a state model code. Both elements that made HB2001 effective and enforceable. Looking forward to following this!
Had a blast talking State housing solutions with coastal planners, builders and elected today. Oregon Housing Needs Analysis and middle housing were heavily featured in the conversation.

Tomorrow DLCD/OHCS will publish a set of recommendations aimed at tweaking the state's housing planning system.
I'm looking forward to it. Not just because it took a lot of work, but because it reforms a system that hasn't meaningfully changed in close to 50 years.
UPDATE - The report is final and published: oregon.gov/lcd/UP/Documents/…
