Oct 25, 1999: A private jet carrying golfer Payne Stewart flew across half the country with everyone on board unconscious, until it ran out of fuel and crashed in South Dakota. Stewart was one of the most popular players in golf, known for wearing old-fashioned knickers and flat caps on the course. That June he had won the US Open at Pinehurst by sinking a 15-foot putt on the final hole. In September he helped the US win the Ryder Cup. On Oct 25 he took off from Orlando in a Learjet headed for Dallas with five others. Shortly after takeoff the plane lost cabin pressure. Without oxygen at that altitude, everyone on board would have passed out within moments. When the plane stopped responding to air traffic controllers, the Air Force sent fighter jets to check on it. The pilots could see the windows frosted over and no movement inside. The Learjet kept flying on autopilot for about four hours, drifting northwest across the country, while the whole nation watched it on the news. It ran out of fuel and crashed into a field in South Dakota. Everyone on board was killed. Stewart was 42. There's a statue of him at Pinehurst, fist raised, frozen in the moment he made that putt to win the US Open.

On this day, 24th October 1976, James Hunt secured the World Championship. After a dramatic season which featured the almost fatal accident of Niki Lauda, the championship finale would occur at the Fuji Speedway. In extremely poor conditions, the majority of the drivers didn't want to race but the Grand Prix went ahead. Niki Lauda withdrew on lap two adding that "my life is worth more than a title." James Hunt secured the championship by just one point. #F1

Former world long drive champion Martin Borgmeier made an ace on the famous par 5 6th hole at Bay Hill in a simulator recently while using a fairway wood. He didn’t even seem to like the shot so it must have been a mishit. What do you even call a hole in one on a par 5?
Kyle Berkshire broke his own world record for the longest drive in history recently with a 588.3 yard bomb, beating the previous record of 579.6 yards. Kyle posted on Instagram to say: “This is one of the biggest accomplishments of my career: I pushed my world record drive from 579.6 yards to 588.3 yards. “The amount of work and training it took to push the bar another 9 yards is hard to put into words, but it was worth all the pain, sweat, and tears to get it done. “I have so many amazing people in my corner pushing me to be at my best, and I feel so fortunate to be in a position to show what's possible in a sport I love. “I have spent the last decade pushing the limits of what's physically possible with a golf club, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. “600 yards, here we come!” Link to full video: youtu.be/-bi72dj2C9c?si=JWcS…

Ben Silverman leads in Bermuda, and he's using a @caliber_golf shaft on his @BettinardiGolf putter. "It's fun for me playing with a hockey stick as my grip for the putter, and it was rolling great today." The Canadian made nearly 125 feet of putts today.
