Young farmers are swapping tractors for teams of horses, betting on the one engine a bank can never repossess. A single modern tractor can top $200,000, with flagship models running past $600,000, debt that can bind a farm for decades. A team of horses eats hay grown right on the farm, and a foal replaces the engine for free. Farms like Around the Table Farm in Poulsbo, Washington stay small on purpose, sell locally, and owe nothing to a lender. Support debt-free farmers on Localize.

A European supermarket is growing 900,000 bags of salad on the roof and selling it downstairs. Meanwhile in America, we now have nearly 12,000 confirmed and probable cases of an explosive diarrhea parasite, and the exact source still hasn't been confirmed. Local systems have traceability built in. Germany's largest supermarket chain, REWE, is taking it to a whole new level: REWE opened Europe's first supermarket with a farm on the roof back in 2021. That store grows fish and basil together right above the shopping aisles, through an aquaponics system where fish waste fertilizes the basil and uses roughly 90% less water than normal farming. Their newer store in Berlin grows over 900,000 bags of salad a year on the roof, picked fresh every single day, and it only takes 23 days from seed to store shelf. The whole building runs on rainwater and heat the store would have wasted anyway, and it's even built from wood instead of concrete so it can be taken apart and reused someday instead of torn down. In America, we've built supply chains so long that when outbreaks occur, the source is nearly impossible to find. More than 11,000 domestic cyclosporiasis cases are now under report or investigation, and the source still hasn’t been definitively confirmed. That kind of confusion doesn't happen with a rooftop farm right up the stairs from your shopping cart. Let’s push our dollars toward transparency in America through buying local. If you need help finding a local farmer, check out the Localize App.

Here's the simple reason why ruminant meat (beef, lamb) is superior to monogastric meat (chicken, pork). Monogastrics store whatever they’re fed. Grains in → linoleic acid in their fat. That’s why pork fat = 20% PUFA, chicken fat = 25% PUFA. Ruminants are different. Their multi-chambered stomachs biohydrogenate polyunsaturated fats, converting unstable seed oils into stable saturated & monounsaturated fats. Grains in → beef fat still ~2–4% PUFA. Translation: 🐖 + 🐓 = vehicles for industrial seed oils. 🐄 + 🐑 = built-in detox machines that protect you from seed oils.

Ever wonder how much it costs to get propaganda like this into the news? Bayer/Monsanto is spending crazy amounts of money trying to get a liability shield so we can’t sue them for ruining the soil and our health. And now they are trying to convince you that spraying an antibiotic that locks up minerals onto your food is “just fine.” How dumb do they think we are?

Here's how Joel Salatin runs his successful farm business without herbicides, pesticides, vaccines, or government subsidies: "The basic concept is that you're studying Creation's pattern and order and trying to duplicate that on a domestic scale. I'll just give you an example. …What do we notice when we look at animals in nature? Well, they move. They're not confined in houses, in little cubicles with their tails cut off. …As soon as you say, well, animals move, well, OK, now we need to be able to provide shelter for them that's portable. We need to provide water to them that's portable, feed that's portable. …And what are the symbiotic relationships? For example, in nature, the wildebeest or the cape buffalo don't get grubicides and parasiticides. Well, how do they stay healthy? Birds. Birds follow them. The egret on the rhino's nose, they pick out the little bugs, and they scratch through the dung and spread that out so the sun can solarize it, and it covers more ground. So we follow our cow herd with Egg-Mobiles, portable chicken houses. The chickens then scratch through the cow patties, eat out the fly larva, disinfect it for the cows the next time they come through. And you have this very natural cycle. So while the average farm is shooting their cows up with grubicides and parasiticides, we simply collect thousands of dollars worth of eggs as a byproduct of our pasture sanitation program."
